I think your right on Grant's end of season last year. It was obvious it was gonna all show up. Don't think he cared much it was a long season. What your describing I think happened to many of the NXN elite. That Jon Davies is on a video about 4 weeks prior to NXN talking about him cutting mileage down and tapering for his Sat. big race. I was thinking you got 3 more big races, next 3 Saturdays before you head to NXN. I just figured they must know what their doing???? He was done at the mile mark, Tamagno way earlier. The jury's still out on what happened to Tamagno. He said he did not taper until the week of his state meet and only had a hand full of racing under his belt. So, he was primed for post season.

Also, kudos to Clinger for sacrificing Footlocker to race with his team at NXN!

Remember last year outdoor, Tamagno ran early big meet something like a 3:46 1500. Just remember the conversion was like a 4:03 mile. We were all thinking here we go man. Then for rest of season he just went downhill, till end of season like way nothing? Before NXN that came to mind and was wondering if the same thing would happen. I don't know maybe he was sick or hurt who knows. Far as American Fork Clinger, they are way team running school. Don't think Footlocker was ever considered. Not sure why AM guys never go on to the big individual races. Maybe their coach has a different idea all year. Whatever it freakin works.

He is 11 seconds slower at a mile and 21 seconds slower at the two mile coming into this year. Hunter is markedly improved as per his results.

Push that over 3.1 miles and it is even a bigger rout. If Hunter lost it would be an upset and something would have to be way off, his career has been managed masterfully, and he is an All Timer for sure. Maybe not in Cross but certainly on the track.

I understand what you're saying and I'd have to agree that Drew is unstoppable, but comparing times on the track can be tricky with Clinger due to the fact that he's racing in UT (4500ft elevation). 9:00 3200m at BYU is faster than it shows. At the same time I'm not saying Clinger could pull off an 8:38 (3200m) like Hunter.

Wanted to refresh this after today.

Shows that Hunter might be burning out, and doesn't have the strength that people thought. He slowed dramatically after his 4:31 opening mile and didn't look too good. Clinger would have been much closer than either Rocha or Veach!

This is getting ridiculous. Hunter won the race by 12 seconds and ran a nice time on the course. No one was in the race after 2000 meters. Was this his best race? Certainly not. Could he have run faster if a Grant Fisher or maybe Casey Clinger were in the race? Yeah, he could've. But he executed his race plan and did his job. He broke everyone in the first mile, pulled away in the second, and held on for the convincing win. Everything else is commentary.

People were proclaiming Hunter the GOAT before today. The facts are simple: he's a very talented runner with better track credentials. However, competitors of yesteryear didn't have the national big-race opportunities that guys do today, so who's to say they couldn''t have run just as fast in the mile/2 mile as Hunter?

Hunter blew up after the 4:31. It's as simple as that. He doesn't have the fluiidity over changing terrain that makes the best high school xc runners of all time so good. He's a big guy with great speed, better suited for the track. But he's by no means a GOAT and should have never been part of the conversation. That's all I'm saying

Didn't Casey Clinger just lose to Garek Bielczyc in the mile recently?

Didn't have his "purest racer" shoes on I guess.

Ok I have not been a Casey Clinger or American Fork fan. Only reason is I coached against them and it was brutal. It is a pleasure to watch the AF guys run. I got to say Casey Clinger....and several of the AF guys distance, are starting to scare me. They are flying! Yesterday at UHSTCA invite, Olympic oval indoor Casey blazes a 4:10! Second is American Fork Patrick Parker, 4:11! Another AF guy, Macay Johns, who I know can run with Casey, hit 4:16. Who is this Patrick Parker! Think their coach's name is Timo Mostert? Who is this man! This is looking like a HS dynasty like I have never seen before. Congrats to Casey, a junior by the way. Amazing run by P. Parker.

...at altitude. We'd be looking at 3 guys from the same team running under 4:10 in January if this were done at sea level.

Believe it or not, cross country is becoming more popular. Guys who were normally lost to other sports or doing nothing are testing themselves. The better athletes still do other sports though. I'm sure there's a guy right now who could beat Usain Bolt in a 100m if he was actually doing track

It hasn't been an easy year to train in Utah either. We've gotten hit pretty hard with El Niño snow effect (not to mention bitter cold), so I'm sure their training has not been as quality as it could be. The only indoor track remotely near them would be BYU's.

Geez forgot about altitude. Yep one guy mentions the snow. What scares me also, is I would wager, that their are at least two more American Fork guys who are all over 4:20. I'm presently going back to the 70's attempting to identify some team compared to what I believe is developing at American Fork. Who is this coach?

Jesuit hs out of Carmichael with the Mastalir brothers and Paul Thomas. Eugene south with the Mckenzie boys. The Woodlands hs with Danny green, Eric Henry, etc.
