You aren't helping Williams case one iota. If he's a 1:48.3 guy who ran 1:51.9 on the most crucial leg of this years relay because he ran like a banshee for 400 meters, throwing away any chance at victory, that's even worse.
I'll concede the point on the 3rd leg. My point was that Loxsom took it to the only guy to beat Andrews this year in an 800. If he runs another second faster in an open 800 this year I wouldn't blink an eye.
I am NOT looking to help Williams case one iota anyway.
he did run like a banshee and running DMR the day before did not help him, 50 point probably felt like 52 point after his PR 400M leg the day before at 46.64
You said Williams was a 1:49 guy who should never sniff a third leg.
All I said, was he has run under that 3 times with a HUGE for the time, 1:48.39 split just last April, there was no reason with him being .5 faster from scratch not to expect better than 1:51.9.
It is what it is, I don't make up the data.
Williams was out way too fast and that killed him, but it was certainly within reason to expect a 1:48.5 and that would have given them the 3 seconds needed or at least made Andrews OR Wheating have to get after it, all else is speculation.
You also could not jump fast enough at using a term like BLUDGEONING for what Loxsom supposedly did to Rollers, when a term more like "barely edging" him was much more appropriate.
But after all you did CONCEDE that point to an actual poster on letsrun, thank god for mini miracles.

Nearly to a man, the guys who were fresh had the extra bit in their legs from 700 to 800 meters. Let's give Virginia credit for bringing in four guys with fresh legs to race off against Penn an Oregon, both of whom had runners who had raced on either Friday or Saturday. This explains Penn's fade and it explains why Virginia was even in the race at the end. It will be interesting indeed to watch these guys at NCAA's. They all will have to run heats (though some may double). The Robby Andrews/Andrew Wheating kick debate is so absurd it is unreal. These were two guys running different races Andrews came in totally fresh, while Wheating was trying to lead his team to its third wheel, after he had already anchored a winning DMR team on Friday evening. One thing that we can all be sure of is that Wheating won't get caught by surprise again.

It is really easy to go out way too fast in any relay leg at the Penn Relays.....those turns are just so gradual and the crowd is right on top of the action.......I've done it myself

That being said, we disagree with the conclusion of this message baord thread, Andrews OOWWWWNNSSSS Wheating. Far from it.
Wheating anchored Oregon to a DMR victory the day before (while UVA and Penn State raised the white flag and got ready for the 4 x 800) and Wheating's 3:59 anchor on the DMR was a thing of beauty. He took it out in 55 and basically then jogged it in for a sub-4. If Andrews had been in that race, we don't think anyone would be saying that he owns Wheating.
We're sure the loss in the 4 x 800 was hard for Oregon and Wheating to handle, but they deserve major props in our minds. One of the biggest problems in marketing track is that many athletes/coaches are afraid to lose. We are sick and tired of so many athletes dodging each other and skipping out on races. A guy like Haile Gebrselassie or Kenenisa Bekele will win the 10k at the Olympics but not even attempt the 5k double as he might lose. Oregon could have easily just run Wheating on the 4 x Mile and skipped town.
So props to the Ducks for going for the triple and props to Wheating and freshman Mac Fleet. Fleet tripled at Penn (1:48.04 on the DMR and 4:03.3 domination on the leadoff of the 4 x Mile) and saved his best for last - a 1:47.64 split in his third race of the weekend.
