In college, I don't give Marco a pass, but I understand it. He has had a tough personal life and he's going through mental turmoil all the time. But he just looks like he can't really race, it is clear he cannot outkick his best competition. He needs to take the lead before the final straight, or go out like Pre, but I haven't it. When he goes pro, he won't be able to pull this crap. He'll get his ass kicked pretty quickly.
A lot of people are saying this, but there is no evidence that this is necessarily an act. I don’t think it is with Lyles either. Lyles really is that much of a douche too.
Well with Lyles of course it's an act - because he's changed it like 3 times over the last 5-6 years. Remember he wanted to be a rapper-DJ, then it was a high fashion icon, and now it's a professional wrestler.
The personality and manifestation of it are two different things. I'm sure Langon hasn't had it easy to get where he is, but there are different ways you can use that motivate yourself, publicize it and ultimately capitalize on/off of it. He's deciding to push it to the extreme and play off it - that's where I think the "act" element comes into play. But it's just my opinion.
There's nothing wrong with this guy. He's just straight forward no BS type of guy. He knows what he wants and isn't going to p@ssy foot around to get it. I like that he takes responsibility that he lost and owns up to it and doesn't let it take him down. He's going to move forward. I wish this guy the best.
You sissy boys on let's run can learn a lot from this guy instead of crying like babies all the time.
Teue. If Marco was an African and acted like this they’d all be fighting over the privilege of chewing on his sweaty shorts after a race.
Like a lot of people I listen to this and cringe - and on the surface with no context he sounds like an idiot (as he's done with most of his interviews this season when he starts rolling in them).
But this is where I personally (just me and my opinion) give him a bit of a pass.
The kid is 21. He's trying to give himself a point of difference in the landscape of collegiate runners in terms of his "edginess" and "attitude" in that hope that either his current NIL brand (Diadora) or someone bigger buy into that and give him a big pro deal. It's overly dialed-up, to a level contrived and manufactured - but it's seemed to have worked for an even bigger cornball in Noah Lyles, so why not. He's at least become a polarizing figure on which he's taking the punt has some value.
So you may not agree with the execution and time will tell whether he's judged this right or not but that's what it is. We are all insecure to varying degrees and especially when we are/were in our early twenties which is easy to forget sometimes. Throw that into what he thinks is going to get him attention and that's where we end up with Langon.
Knowing people in a few brands I'm not entirely sure this strategy is going to work well for him - but then again maybe Diadora, with nothing to lose, actually encourage this, we don't know. It's not like the counter-culture, rebel with a cause angle hasn't worked before in American society. Things have got very milquetoast in the last 5-10 years but in true American fashion that is probably going to over correct itself in dramatic fashion and maybe Langon has played his cards right.
But never forget he's just 21 and trying to create an identity for himself - that's all.
This is a very good take. He's absolutely very conscious of his "edginess" in interviews to land a big contract. But, did you notice he didn't curse a single time in his latest interviews? Someone told him to tone that down because brands might shy away. So he self-adjusted on at least that part. As for his comment about being willing to take out another runner to win, it is is idiotic and juvenile and that mentality is non-existent in professional or NCAA track and field by top performers. Brands won't go for that either if he keeps saying it or acts on it in races. Anyway, his Jersey Shore persona elicits a lot of reactions, and sometimes even negative reactions are better than no reaction, but he dances on the line of being a risk to a company brand, so he may shoot himself in the foot.
Samuel got passed, didn't like it and then illegally pushed him out which through Marco out of the race and also impacted CS. If he didn't want that to happen he should have kicked earlier dumb fk
This kid is such an ahole. Hard not to want to see him lose.
You boomers have to chill. He's got the same attitude as your hero Prefontaine had. We look in awe at "in order to beat me they're going to have to bleed" or "it's going to come down to a pure guts race, and i'm the only one that can win." Give it a rest. Give him credit for thinking ahead to the spring too and keeping his head up.

But apparently he still couldn't help himself:
“I got pushed out, that’s really it. It’s a physical sport, so sh*t happens,” Langon said.
Does he talk like this at school, during classes, when speaking to professors or classmates?

Hah. I missed that one. Normally every third word is a curse. Progress!
You can be all these things while also not being the corniest dude in the sport lmaooo... Sure it's good to be a no BS say it how it is. But this bloke acts like the 9th grader from your high school that just watched his first rap music video lmaoo I'm crying bro this dudes a cornball
He’s a bit over the top, but the running community just isn’t used to non square people. Most distance guys are middle-upper class, spoon fed squares that give textbook interviews all the time. White bread personalities. Like I said, ya sometimes he should chill more, but watching him is refreshing to me
I don’t see why he has to be so aggressive during these interviews. Now he’s talking about a trail of blood come outdoors..I thought he said the same for indoors?! Can’t keep up. For someone who wants so desperately to nobly provide for his family, his mouth could absolutely hold back his full offering potential down the line more than his inability to win an individual title.

I agree..for contrast, go watch on YouTube or YouTube TV and see Gary Martin's Interview
Marco is the kind of guy probably 75-80% of posters here wish they could be.
He's confident, don't give F@ck what you think, a good runner, and attractive to the ladies.
You guys on these boards are such insecure Sissys. I can tell by some of the threads you guys post here on this site asking the dumbest questions. Always insecure.
You hide behind your keyboards posting BS but in person you are such cowards. Marco will tell you to your face what he thinks.
He's the type of guy who your wives or girlfriends admire in secret and wish you were while you go out for your slow fartsy runs.
He's not confident, he's an arrogant @sshole. People this blatantly insecure care very much what others think about them. He's a pretty good runner yes but not very attractive if you are looking for anyone with decent character.
I 100% support what he is saying and how he is saying it!
This is called passion
I guess too many of you have never been in real competition. and as one other poster said about Pre - this is exactly how Pre would have been. If you don't like this guy, you cannot be a Pre fan.
