Just in the past month we had Randolph Ross banned, olympic gold medalist. Nijel Amos was banned, olympic silver medalist, and Lawrence Cherono banned - 2:03.04 marathoner, 2019 Boston and Chicago champion. Not distance, but Olympic Champion Erik Kynard got banned.
We've also had a massive number of whereabouts failures. And stronger testing will discourage doping so it may result in fewer postive tests because less people are doping.
Valid points, but we also had several months of severely reduced testing during Covid restrictions, and thus most likely increased doping coinciding with the introduction of the super spikes.

Honestly slow race or fast race Ingebrigtsen would still beat Grant, let’s not forget Jakob ran 7:27 low when he was 19, destroyed one of the best field of all time in a very fast race in Florence, and still destroyed one of the best field of all time in a slow-ish race in Eugene. Coming off the final turn in the 5000, Ithought Grant was going ot medal. That being said, the two guys who he lost to today weren't even in the race. The Ethiopians in their wisdom decided to punish their best men's and women's 5000 runners for not medalling in the 10,000 by banning them from the 5000. Plus the guy who won today was sitting out Worlds trying to get eligible for Spain.

At a minimum, today's result shows us Grant Fisher should have been either shoulder to shoulder with J.I. from 4000m split or no further than 1/2 a stride behind J.I. from 4000m to 4700m. Grant had a great run today but was still 3 seconds off the win. I don’t think he should have tried to push any harder at Worlds, he was right where he needed to be and unfortunately had a stumble. Jakob would very likely have won in sub-7:25 if he had competed today (anyone know why he didn’t?), there’s just not much Grant can do against someone like that. He’s shown great progression in the past year and is a legit medal threat at 5k/10k, but unless he takes another step forward I don’t see him beating Jakob in a 3k or championship 5k.

I’m trying to hate your post but it is true. He has to win something to really put an exclamation point to his epic season. Times are great but it has to amount to beating people. It reminds me of my 2016 Warriors: Best regular season win total, numerous records and amazing stats during the regular season but no NBA title. Some sort of consolation left for Fisher would be winning the diamond league final or so.

To be fair, Aregawi was pretty bad in that 10,000. I can see why they lost faith in him. Across the board, Grant was the rare guy who didn’t have his performance drop a good chunk from the 10 to the 5. Aregawi has to prove himself as a championship racer.

As for jakob he has Euro champs starting next week
Shock that Jerry had GF return to racing so soon. Would have thought the 1st time we would have seen him spike up again post worlds would have been in a team time trial at BU in Feb
