"After chatting for a bit, Camille put together these two tables showing the fastest times ever for these sections."
- they were not tables of the fastest times ever for these sections - Derek corrected himself belatedly.
"What do these tables show? They show that Ashley completed these sections faster than many of the top runners’ all time best performances."
- the tables do not show that. Pete Kostelnick for example has run the last 3.9 miles faster than the time quoted in that table so the table does not include his all time best performance - Derek corrected himself belatedly.
"For the final 4 miles, only Oswaldo has ever recorded a faster split than Ashley."
- at this point we're dealing with inaccuracy on top of inaccuracy so it's hard to be sure, but I think Derek meant to say Jorge Pacheco here - not corrected yet.
- this quote is also not true for more broadly fo the reasons given above. As noted several times in the thread Jen Vogel is another example of someone who's ran this section faster - and quite a bit faster and in the daytime as well.
"At the finish, her watch showed 131 miles."
- that was her heart rate.
We may have different definitions of wildly inaccurate. But you can't in good faith say the original article didn't contain anything inaccurate at all.
