The 2014 Boston marathon was not very competitive. i think it was clear they wanted an American victor after what happened in 2013.
Meb's 2009 victory wasn't that great a field either heck 6 of the top 10 spots went to Americans.
I know you think the 2:07 is BS but you are wrong. Ritz was told no. Probably because his Nike contract ended in December and he waited the 180 days before signing with Brooks-Hanson. Not in good graces with Nike.

I think you are a troll, but if you aren't then you should give yourself credibility by naming the athlete and describing the terms that you all were not able to agree upon. A washed up 2:07 runner might get passed over, just like a legit 2:07 runner might get passed over if you asked for too much money.

Did you know Gianni Demadona decides which elites get into Toronto Marathon? Why the hell would this be the case? Why would an Italian Agent be able to do this. It's complete BS in my mind, but this is the way of the world. My guess is that my athlete is just another Kenyan to these Chicago Coordinators. How many athletes broke 2:08 last year? Over 44 and that was an Olympic Year when people dodge big races. So, again, not a troll, just saying that this sport is so hypocritical and unfair.
With Chicago starting earlier in October than they used to, in addition to no pacers, has hurt it. This thread should be turned around. Why are so few up to the potential challenges this race may offer? Rupp is game. Who else is?

As incomes rise globally, there are going to be fewer and fewer Kenyan making it on $20k per year and their sponsorship contracts aren't great.

Chicago is a great race but it has doesn't seem to have the interest of the public as it did when Khalid Khanouchi was setting world records and winning year after year.
The spectators turn out for Chicago even with the 7:30 a.m. start time.
NYC and Boston each has huge crowds also but their races start at a more spectator friendly time of day.

Rupp running 2:06 or better is what most of "us" want, to validate that he's actually capable and let's be honest, it would just be pretty sweet to have an american-born white dude run super fast again (pour a little out for R. Hall).
But i gotta believe that to the majority of the masses there is absolutely no difference between 2:08, 2:07, or 2:05... HOWEVER, putting him on the cover of Runner's World with the words "WINNER" of _______ World Major Marathon... Now that seems like something Nike or any good marketer would be willing to pay the big bucks for.
The question is, is it something they'd maybe nudge Pinkowski to keep a couple african contenders out of the start list for? I dunno. You have to admit they'd be pretty happy to have some big name former world beaters on the line that have solid recognition but are actually at low risk of crushing their guy. I mean, is there a better scenario for the Swoosh? The Feyisa addition throws this out of wack for sure. Would be insane if he ends up getting a big payday to DNS.

You've said the same thing about 10 times. You must not be a very seasoned traveler, I fly transpacific/transatlantic several times per year at minimum, have been to places like Ethiopia, and can say that the east-to-west transatlantic is by far the easiest to recover from. I'm usually completely adjusted within a day, doesn't even come close to Europe to Australia with 2+ transfers.
