Where would the Cleveland Browns be ranked in the NCAA top 25?

There is a widely recognized brand of idiocy among diehard college football fans (especially the derangement of alums- See Penn State) and this thread is putting it all out on display for you.

Many college football fans prefer the college brand over the NFL which is their prerogative to do so. But sometimes it morphs into this absurdity that the level of play is similar and occasionally into the belief that their favorite, super duper, bestest ever, college team could beat an NFL team.

Every year we have clowns claiming his team is the best team in the history of college football. My joy comes when this best team of all time loses in the playoffs.

Not only is the pro game faster as another poster noted. But the line play would be an embarrassment. The college team lines would be manhandled. And for anyone that knows football even a little bit, you know that if you can't control the line at least a little bit you will be blown out and it won't be a contest. It would be comical to watch the line play alone of Alabama vs the Browns.

Exactly. I know we have a bunch of trolls on this thread but there would be mass injuries for Alabama if this game actually happened. Zero chance the quarterback would have any time to throw a pass, let alone hand-off cleanly for a running play. I would put the injuries sustained to be 10 - 20% of the starters for Alabama. The offense and defensive line would get destroyed by any NFL line, even the Browns.

I would actually love to watch the game. I would bet my life the game would be 50 - 0 if the Browns played their best players the whole game and put the pedal down.

I don't think any college team could score a touchdown on the Browns unless it was a fluke play.

And the Browns would move up and down the field on offense against slow college linebackers and DBs.

Up until 1976, each year's Super Bowl champs (or League champs before there was an AFL) would play a College All-Star team. I was actually at the game in 1976 the last time it was played (yes, I'm old) and it was a miserable affair they eventually cancelled due to intense rain, and I think by then everyone lost interest and it was never played again.

I know it's not the Browns, it's the best Pro team, but they were playing the College ALL-STAR team, not just the best college team. I'm sure the college players were trying their hardest ... the pros maybe not as much.

Great info. Hard to believe that even in the 1960s the best teams and NFL players had to work other jobs during the season to make enough to survive.

With the focus so let on football and the crazy amount of defensive and offensive schemes, the NFL players would never lose an all-star game like that again.

Well, it was a rhetorical question, but you made my point. Saban was nothing special as an NFL coach, even with better talent in Miami than the Browns have. Cleveland could use their most basic game plan - any pro team could - and still run over, through, and around the greatest college team.

Yes, I knew it was rhetorical. Lane Kiffin, the highly regarded offensive coordinator, was 5-15 as head coach for the Raiders, 7-6 Tennessee, and at the storied USC program, was not much above .500. He basically sucked as a head coach.

Alabama has had some trouble against multi-threat QBs who can run but also are who are good passers. Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly lit them up a couple years in a row for 40+ points and 2 Ole Miss wins over Bama. SO an NFL team would put up 40+ points on Bama's so-called stingy-d. Johnny Football put up nearly 50 points on em when A and M beat Bama, and the Browns released him. They're stingy defensively because a lot of college teams flat out suck. As someone mentioned, the line play would be a laughable difference. Bama's offense is nothing special, but can look flashy against bad college defenses. I'd bet they'd manage no more than 3 points against the Browns. Cleveland 55-Albama 0 is what I'd predict. I've watched football religiously for 15 years, both college and NFL. I know my stuff.

My suspicion is that the only people who think the best college team could beat the worst NFL team are SEC types who have never traveled outside their birth county, whose closest connection to college is wearing a team sweatshirt and who have designs on their little sister.

Yeah, if you think Bama has a chance against an NFL team you may need to examine yourself for serious psychological issues. Or putting forth your judgments when you clearly don't know what you're talking about.
