OMG. America's newest star has arrived!! True frosh Donavan Brazier runs 1:45.93 in first-ever collegiate 800!!

Frankly I don't care if he ever wins one ncaa championship - so what? It's not like he's really getting anything out of it. He will surely get burned out if runs in the ncaas very long.

I hope he gets an experienced coach and focused on development to get to 140 outdoors. He'll never do it unless that goal is setup now, and training designed to get him there, time period being dependent on how well he hits intermediate times.

This guy's talent is special and needs to be recognized right now for the potential as a world beater. Hope he gets there!

He went to Harvard. I've got no idea why he wouldn't have gone to Princeton but hey I'm alum.

Last week, he was seeded at 62 for 500 which would be really fast for Cornell's flat track. I was told he went out fast and got run down. Only ran 64.93.

Correct. 48-9 shouldn't stand out but this guy is a 45 relay runner. He's way faster than your average great HS 800 runners, plus he broke 4:10 in the mile in HS. STUD. STUD. STUD.

One of the dumber posts in LetsRun history. I've never understood why people think NCAAs ruin people. So many runners whether it's Xavier Carter or Andrew Wheating are incredible when they have the structure of the NCAA system to help them.

Please tell me what stars have been ruined by the NCAA system. Alan Webb didn't do the NCAA system and his career was over before Ritz or Hall.

John Kellogg believes heavy racing in HS is what ruins people. They aren't ready for that when they are young.

That still makes no sense. In the post where I got the birthdate wrong, I still had the jr eligibility rules correct which would have eliminated the point of your response.

Anyways, I am excited to see where the rest of the year takes him. Who knows? Maybe we will see a teenager go 1:43.x and win the trials! Still a long ways off, but not out of the question.

Terrible logic. I agree that relays and the 1600 put a damper on potential 800m times, but Brazier ran those events just like all other HS kids so that fact does not take away from his relative talent level.

Also - one can pretty easily count the number of 18 year-olds who have run 1:45.93 or better indoors in the last decade. Mo Aman is the last guy to do it and that was 4 years ago.

Calm the f down, everybody, it's just 800 meters. I mean, the kid only had to run hard for 1:45. If he ever moves up to the marathon, then, ok, we might have reason to get hysterical.

To the extent that people are ruined by the NCAA system, it's from bad training, not racing.

Ryun would be one of the first to congratulate him. That record (1.44.9 880y -- 1.44.3c 800m) has stood since June 10, 1966. Nearly FIFTY years. This is the guy to take a shot at that. Best of luck.

Rojo did you mean you feel sorry for Kidder? I think Creese is out of indoor eligibility (he has one more year of outdoor eligibility though).

Oregon has a great 800 runner that should give him a run at NCAA Franzmair. He just ran a 1.18.37 for 600 not sure what that would come to for an 800 but he did run 1.46 mid in High School overseas GO DUCKS
