I think he will be a 3:30-31 guy this year. 3:29s aren't just given out for breakfast even these days. I'd like to see him run 7:30 before I see the 3:29 imminent.
I think he’s a Hobbs Kessler/Jake Wightman type runner. They’ve run mid 7:30’s/1:43 and run under 3:30. Colin’s run yesterday shows he can run 1:43 outdoors, especially in a time-trial set up for him. Sub 3:30 just depends on when he gets in a fast enough race.
Yes, but with all due respect to Kessler and Wightman they've never in their life been capable of a 16th place finish at NCAA cross. Especially against that 2025 field. Sahlman's range is unreal, has anyone ever attempted the 800/3k double indoors, or 800/5k outdoors?

Kessler had at least Sahlman XC capabilities, he was undefeated in CoVid year cross, and ran 8:39 two mile running away in spring over Gavin Sherry, with a 25.x thrown in there to boot on last lap.
Riley Hough and he ran in different races in State Final in 2020
Records | Michigan High School Athletic Association, and other than Ritz's absurd off the charts mark it is number 5 All time running away easy.
He was going to go to NAU , and certainly would have been great at NC's XC.

if Hobbs had gone to NAU, by the time he was a senior he probably makes All American in XC. His range is right there with Sahlman and Young but he never tapped into it after HS. give Smith 4 years he woulda found it.

Link didn't paste, sorry,
Underscoring the unfortunate nature of the two-section final due to a COVID restriction on race sizes, Hobbs Kessler of Ann Arbor Skyline ran the third-fastest time meet history with 14:51.7 in the first D1 race. Hough, a junior, then stepped up and chased that time with and won with 14:49.65 -- second only to the legendary Dathan Ritzenhein's 14.10.4 from 2000.
Salhman ran a great race, but I don't understand two consistent remarks in this thread. One is that he should have run the rail better. I would disagree, in that he ran for the win, and hugging the rail, especially in an indoor 800, could be a dangerous tactic for moving late. He showed that if you want to win, being able to go around people is key, hugging the rail detracts from that (plus everyone gets on Hocker for running the rail too much!!). Second, all these predictions that he ran 1.44.xx, therefore, he can now run, 1:43 o4 1:42. Relax people, he is a 1:44 guy, that's it until he actually runs faster (which I hope he does)

He wasn't undefeated in Covid cross, he lost twice, Once to Riley Hough at the state championships and once to Judson Greer at what was effectively the national championships.

It's not a I think he can run a 1:43, it's a I know he can. He ran pretty much the entire race in lane 2 which cost him 14 meters which takes 1.5 seconds to run. Had he been in a Josh Hoey world record style race (in terms of pacing), he would have ran 1:43 low.

Completely inaccurate
he and Hough ran in separate races at State meet
i already posted the account of that
Hough ran 14:49 in his race
Kessler unpressed as well ran 14:51
Didn't know that, are you sure? They should have been in the same division. Either way he did lose nationals to Judson Greer.

A complete fantasy
He ran closer to 1:45.00 than he did 1:44.00
and you want to give him advance credit for a 1:43.xx ?
Fantasyland is a marvelous place
Yoy don’t get credit for marks you are no where near after a big PR
it’s comical what some post on here and shows a fundamental cluelessness of epic proportions
