No, Jakob can’t, if he’s even 100% let alone on the starting line in Tokyo. It’s debatable, but Cole with this one race may be the favorite now.

Disagree. Fisher was the one who ran with terrible tactics. He did the same thing in GS. He sat back on a very slow pace and thought he could outkick the field. In such a slow 5000 Hocker has a better 100~200M kick. Fisher needed to push the pace from ~1600 to take the kick out of Hocker's legs.

If we are comparing Hocker's final 51.7 400m to some of Jakob's last 400's during champio ship 5000's, just remember that cole had run a hard 1500 final the day before. If he had had a day off, he might have been able throw down that same four hundred off of a faster pace.

How is this a serious question? That was a good run from Hocker but Jakob is on a different level. He’s finishing 13:10 races with sub-5:00, 2:21, 52/53 for his last 2k, 1k, and 400, respectively. Of course he can close in 51 in a 13:25 race where the final 2k is 5:05.

The faster it gets, the worse it will be for Hocker. He’s never shown great ability in a fast 5k (see his 13:09 in Stockholm earlier this year). In a 13:0x championship race after rounds (don’t forget today was a straight final) he’s unlikely to medal, let alone be challenging Jakob for the win.
