51.76 close in a 13:26 race? Serious question: can Jakob match that? Even if the race is 13:0x, are we sure he can close faster than Hocker? No one was even close to matching him today.
I’m really serious when I think he’s going to be looking for another gold in the 1500, 51 second last lap shows me he has the skill set, he just needs to be ready to make moves places other then the rail

Jakob would take it from 1k out like Fisher probably wanted to do.

No, Jakob can’t, if he’s even 100% let alone on the starting line in Tokyo. It’s debatable, but Cole with this one race may be the favorite now.

Best chance at gold is to let the Ethiopians, Jakob if he’s there, and Grant if he is feeling like a hero take lead the whole time and steal the race as late as possible. I got a feeling that Mahari kid can kick like a prized racing horse, so Cole will want to not underestimate him and just cover his move and wait to pass with just 50 to go. Cole winning gold will be about timing and patience. None of the others guys in the race can run 3:27 1500 except Jakob and none of them including Jakob can close 12:5 100 in a 3:30 race.

Jakob is by far still the clear favorite in the 5k lol its stupid to think otherwise

Of course he can. But he would never let that happen, he always leads with a K to go if he is worried about someone in a race. He certainly will be scared of Hocker so he will do the boring thing and push from around 1100-1200m out.

How is this a serious question? That was a good run from Hocker but Jakob is on a different level. He’s finishing 13:10 races with sub-5:00, 2:21, 52/53 for his last 2k, 1k, and 400, respectively. Of course he can close in 51 in a 13:25 race where the final 2k is 5:05.
The faster it gets, the worse it will be for Hocker. He’s never shown great ability in a fast 5k (see his 13:09 in Stockholm earlier this year). In a 13:0x championship race after rounds (don’t forget today was a straight final) he’s unlikely to medal, let alone be challenging Jakob for the win.

He hasn’t raced yet. We have to at least see how he runs his first race back from injury before we can dub Jakob the favorite. Plus he just might not have that race sharpness in Tokyo anyway.

So much overconfidence in Ingebrigtsen. He won convincingly in Paris but in 2023 he just barely won that final. You people like he’s invincible in the 5k. He isn’t and plus he is a total wildcard this season. He has like six weeks to prepare for Tokyo. We know he lost a lot of training quality from his injury. If he smokes it on the DL this month I will concede, but even then I don’t think we should just expect him to dominate in Tokyo as he’s lost so much preparation.
