Something has really been off about his training. I think this time around he tweaked his hamstring in his buildup from doing fast 200s.
Hes under 30 and is essentially a 27 flat 10k runner. He should be far faster than this.
no spring track season for you, Klecker. Sorry. You need to figure this road race stuff out
I feel the opposite. He’s a multiple time sub 13 guy and front ran a 27 flat. He should just stick to track while he’s still good at it. Stick to what you’re good up don’t move up yet.

Agreed. He said on Strava his next race will be Cherry Blossom 10 miler though. That may suit him better going down a little in distance and on a flat course.
Hopefully we are not inundated with AR talk again for that one

He moved up because he doesn't the next gear to run like Fisher to make it at 5/10K at world stage. And even US fields in those 2 events are getting crowded. It is what it is. These guys are basically winning/losing for a fraction of 1%.
Some decently quick looking times for 700+ feet of elevation gain. Wonder what a 1:07:22 effort here would've gotten in Houston.
Roe did run Houston, but clearly had a much better day today. To PR so massively on this course is amazing. Probably equates to low to mid 1:06s on a flat course.
Thanks for posting the full results. It is fascinating to see how little the half marathon resonates here in America.
In Japan, this would be a major event with 40-50 guys running around 1:01, not six.
I know this course was not easy or flat, but a) we just aren't that good that this distance (relative to how good Americans are on the track) and b) 1:01 has no meaning in a world of 56 and 57 minute half marathons.
If I remember correctly, Galen Rupp ran a 1:01 in a practice race down in Portland about a decade ago. 1:01 in the HM is like 13:20 in the 5km at this point.
I'd like to see some GPS data on this course. I believe they ran farther than 13.1, for two reasons.
1) About 9miles in or so, the lead vehicle missed a right turn and the lead pack started to follow and ended up having to stop.
2) Courses are measured for the shortest distance by physical landmarks. This course was lined with cones that even threw off the leaders. That wasn't the shortest route that they ran
Brady was never really a speed guy but apparently has exceptional endurance. I hope him and AB make a comeback so they can put that excrement on CTESPN, baby.
Taylor was obviously already an NCAA champ back in '22 running away from Tuohy/the field.
Alex Maier was a 10K runner up behind Dylan Jacobs iirc and won NCAA XC with the team. Shadrack has made multiple teams. But I think (esp for Maier and Roe who just finished college) this shows how good Smith has recently been at fostering and developing talent for the long term. Obviously shows good coaching by the Craggs too
This does not seem the strongest team the USA can send to the World Championship. So what is the excuses the top US runners will give for why they did not run this event? Can blame how far the travel to Worlds will be - it is in SD.
Appearance fees for NYC half and no desire to compete at the WC in September during the height of money making season. Despite that, not a bad field at all.
What if Joe just needs a couple races or season to figure it out? He is NOT a sub-13/27 guy right now because last year was a big injury year. If he did track and no roads we would be trashing him and saying “he needs to go up to the roads”
Sara Hall: 9th place in 1:09:45 at age 41. Is this a new American Women's Masters record?
Couldn't find an updated listing of American masters or age-group road records, but did find that this was not a record. Deena Kastor ran 1:09:36 at the Rock'n'Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon on 9/21/14. Edna Kiplagat owns the world record at 1:07:52 set on 1/14/24 at the Houston Half Marathon.
This is a list of world records for Masters age groups in the sport of road running. The world governing body for masters athletics is World Masters Athletics (WMA). WMA conducts various world championships in what are called...

lead vehicle went the correct way, and it was the camera motos that took a wrong turn. It did not impact the race.
The course was measured using the way it was coned. You should be able to download the world athletics certificate if you’re interested.
