That's partly because there are usually about 2 professional mile indoor races on a decent level per season, namely Millrose and either NB or another similar meeting. One of them is often a bit tactical, so very few occasions to run fast.
That's why my user name reads 'more 1500s', but Touhy only runs the mile every 4 years, so comps are reasonable.

She would not have run that fast in such a crowded field and people complained about the pacing in the race last week when it was pretty even, except for one slowish lap.
