20 year old professional athlete and mommy and daddy are still fighting his battles

1. It's quite probably that Gio,, the player on this team, had no idea his mom/dad did this.

2. It's a scumbag move by Mom and Dad. 30 years later and you bring it up because your mad your son didn't see the field more in the world cup?

3. Its a bad move by Berhalter to even bring the training incident with Reyna up during that conference.

4. No one comes out looking good in this. Not Gio, Not Greggggggg Berhalter. Not Mom and Dad Reyna. Not US Soccer (lets be honeat here, they constantly shoot themselves in the foot).

He admitted to kicking her.

He is a woman abuser.

Goo would be permanently barred from the team for this if I were to become coach.

Berhalter always looks and sounds like a fraud. Karma. And Claudio's mom is a low-level human. Those are not the values you teach your child.

This is a sad story on a personal level. The families were VERY close prior to this. Greg said playing Claudio was like inserting a son.

Mrs. Reyna has admitted it all. Her logic is actually pretty simple.

I thought it was especially unfair that Gio, who had apologized for acting immaturely about his playing time, was still being dragged through the mud when Gregg had asked for and received forgiveness for doing something so much worse at the same age.

I don't think Greg meant to drag Gio through the mud. He was just making a private speech for a lot of $$$ but it was extremely dumb to think it wouldn't get out.

Anyways, did she really think this accusation would influence anyone? I don't care what he did 31 years ago. No one comes out looking good.

Berhalter’s lack of discretion in criticizing Gio in public was a step too far.

But the Reynas going nuclear by publicly humiliating Berhalter and his wife is just so far out of proportion to what Berhalter did.

Airing a public soccer grievance is so different from using the most personal and intimate details from a 30-year friendship to destroy someone’s reputation, and the fact that the Reynas don’t realize that makes them seem like awful people.

They didn't go public until GGG did. And they might not have ever done so if Stewart didn't open an investigation. Although, I still wonder whether they knew Ernie had to open an investigation once told. These people have been close friends for 30 years. Some things just take their course although they are not expected to do so.

GGG is guilty of being a mediocre/uninspiring manager and naive about the likelihood of comments that never should’ve left the locker room instead disclosed at a summit being leaked to the public.

Gio’s parents are guilty of being butthurt about their son’s playing time enough to start texting GGG’s boss and USMNT president to b!tch about it and then, when the Gio story was unfortunately leaked, calling US soccer to dig up old dirt on GGG in a clear act of entitled, juvenile revenge against him.

The latter is a much larger indication of an immense character flaw to me.

I just wanted to point out what hasn't been noted yet. Of course this incident occurred at He's Not Here. Serving some strong drinks up in there.

That's a bit naive RoJo. Greg definitely knew what he was doing in his "private speech." Anyone who has played at any decent level of US Soccer (looking at you Olympic Development Program) knows the coaching is rampant with politicking and backstabbing that make the Real Housewives look like saints. Track tends to breed more honesty. Run xyz time and you make the team.

Beyond all the drama of this, there really has to be only one outcome here. Berhalter has to go. He's a middling coach at best. Honestly I kind of like what the Reynas have done. They did what needs to be done to win. Gio is a budding star at Dortmund and he's barely 20. Let's see...how many US players under the age of 21 are the fulcrum of the attack on a Champions League team? I'm having a hard time counting here. Oh yeah, it's 1. Maybe I missed like 10 Moroccan Americans.

The finishing touch isn't on the head coach but team selection is, and I can't imagine there were many USMNT that felt Berhalter took and played the attackers who had the best chance of scoring goals.

That said, I feel for GGG, but can't see how he can stay on. The drama and divisions can't be worth what he offers as a coach. That's not his fault, but it is a consequence of the cronyism that got him the job. I hope the next manager has had experience and success at the top level and no deep personal connections to any US Soccer families.

In a sport rife with PED use, TUE exceptions, Nike athletes that get preference, athletes providing some BS excuses for things that "just happen to end up" in their systems, and conflicts of interest, you're saying track breeds more honesty?

I'm not buying it.

Watching Gio against the Netherlands, he was loafing around, no urgency, no desire to get fully engaged. A total brat. I thought he was injured and that what was at the root of his lack of minutes. Thus, not surprising that his parents pull this kind of vindictive crap. Soccer in the US is run by these types of families. An incestuous cess pool. Dream on if you think you can ever consistently make it far in the WC. And for the young team that everybody is drinking the Kool Aid about, don’t see how and where they get better competing in CONCACAF and playing in a handful of European clubs.

You don't see how and where the team gets better through a few years of their squad playing in the Champions Leauge/Prem/Serie A/La Liga/Bundesliga?
