No murders here, but a laundry list of crimes committed by James Hogue. Just search that name if you're not familiar. Off the top of my head: he was a great high school runner in Kansas in the 70s who then ran a year at the U. of Wyoming, helping the team get third at XC nats. He dropped out, kicked around a bit, then stole an identity and entered high school in California claiming to be 16 years old when he was really 26. Joined the HS XC team and won an invitational but was quickly outed as an impostor. Got jailed for theft (I think) for a short time after that, then when he got out he made up a new 18-year-old identity, got his fake self admitted to Princeton, and ran for the XC/track team. That fraud lasted 2 years before a girl from the California high school happened to be at an Ivy League track meet and recognized him! He then spent more time in jail for various thefts, and finally ended up in Aspen, Colorado, where he sort of established himself as a seemingly legit resident, but was secretly stealing thousands of dollars worth of stuff from the cabins and chalets. He even built a secret hidden cabin up in the mountains to store all his loot. When the police found the cabin, he escaped and got as far as Arizona, I believe, but finally got nabbed. That takes us to 2006, and I think he got about 10 years in prison for the Aspen thefts. God knows what he's done since then, probably more of the same.
There's a book "The Runner" and a documentary "Con Man" about his crazy life. If the project is "crimes committed by runners," James Hogue has to be included.
