Tying road races and marathons to charity fundraising in the 1990's is one of the worst things that's ever happened to our sport.
It completely changes the perception of the sport away from being an actual competitive sport and into a fundraising parade. Something that is not to be taken seriously and equivocates a 209 marathon to a 409 marathon.
