No, he has never been that good but could have been with me as coach. He turned down my offer to coach him for free. The Phil we are talking about here is another Phil.

He passed through halfway in his marathon race at 1:10 ( 32:28 at first 10 k ). He ran a new PB at 10 miles race in 51 min and he won a couple of solo local 5 k races at around 15min.
And then blew up.
So you failed in your magic mission to have him run sub 2:20 then.
Why did your magic fail?
everybody knows it, not enough miles, too much focus on 5k pace for a marathoner

And that's JS's claim. That you can prepare and run a marathon to your full potential on low mileage.
Let's see with Slava...

Ruin is a bit extreme. I think J.S. is correct in saying that I needed a couple more years. Ran a couple 1:08 half’s and sub 15 5k TT’s this year. Hopefully next year down to 1:06ish and sub 2:20 if we are able to have real races.
45th week:

Tu: track 20x400@68s avg, rec w/120=91s avg
We: injured
Th: injured
Fr: injured
Ran with a little pain the last 5 weeks, then let go, then again. I went to the Orthopedist after all: I have first-degree longitudinal flat feet and second-degree transverse flat feet. On the left foot overloaded a navicular bone: 1 week without running. I made foot casts and ordered orthopedic insoles, they should be ready on Monday. Every day I pump my feet, especially the tibial muscle, which holds the arch of the foot, ice+ tiger balm 3 times a day + gymnastics for all the muscles of the foot. I had flat feet for a long time, I knew about it, but when I started running, I had no problems until the volume of running began to exceed 100 km per week and high-intensity training appeared. I also had old injuries from windsurfing: minor sprains. The orthopedist said that if the pain passes on the 4th-5th day, you can start running, but it's better to wait until the insoles are made and run in them. The doctor said, since you are tall, weight 78-80 kg, large foot size + flat feet, you need shoes with maximum foam thickness and pump the muscles of the feet with gymnastics constantly, such as orthopedic insoles are good, but the muscles and ligaments are the main thing.

Did you talked to coach about it?
20x400m @68s while in (little) pain does not sound like a good idea. Why no easy runs instead?
Btw, Good luck on recovery
sorry about this Slava, but isnt it what everyone predicted and magic wizard said was impossible?
good luck on your recovery, and if what i said above is right, maybe consider your coach?
Hope the specific exercises and the insoles will solve your problem!
I guess the threadmill was also a little more forgiving for your feet than asfalt and tartan.
Do you have some soft trails you might be able to use?

You look to be very talented ! Your development goes fast . We just hope we can keep you injury free... - COACH J.S - Swedish middle/longdistance super coach :)
But....you are the magic coach? But...you hope?? to keep him injury free??
A magic coach should know how to keep his runner from getting an injury
Doesn`t matter who the coach is there is no 100% guarantee the runner won`t get an injury. But the chance of keeping to be injuryfree is higher when using a low mileage system and individual perfect calibrated paces. A couple of the runners I start to coach five years ago and still coach has never got an injury. Of course I`m not magic, but my coaching seem to be ;)

O boy, a bit of a failure
Get well soon Slava!

I had one injury in april-right foot, it tooks 3 weeks to cure it. Injury was due to wrong shoes + my flat feet. Long time ago I knew that with flat feet it is very high risk of injury, but I did not expect, that after my simple running I will be able to run 100km+ per week already after 4-5 months and that time I should worry about orthopedic insoles, exercises+yoga and so on... ?
