Pretty sure some of the CIM 2:19 runners last year only trained 80mpw.

Can it be done? Yeah. But why limit yourself? You can run more, if you eased up on your easy runs and make sure you eat enough. But for the most part, this reads like a troll post, " have a super hot 9.5 wife, 2 kids, make 6 figures working 50 hr weeks.".

More important than the mileage is the key workouts. So you still have a lot of hard work to do, so don’t kid yourself.

Just make sure your quality days are long and hard. Hire a coach and go for it.

I know it sounds like a troll post, but everything I said is true. I’m going to try either way. I’m certainly not limiting myself, I just have other responsibilities. I run at 4:30am before work each day. Running after work isn’t an option unless I did it at 8pm, which would make the 4:30am runs even tougher. My 2 days off will be the key.

Can you run during your lunch break or could you run to work?

Were those 80mpe guys you assume exist also in their 30s, have taken a 4 year break from running, have 2 kids, and work 50+ hours a week. Let's be realistic. This guy has a ways to go and is a longshot at best.

I only live 2 miles from work so it wouldn’t really add much mileage. Plus I wouldn’t be able to shower which is gross. I work 7-5 each day and the job is quite demanding the entire time. I do go home each day for an hr lunch break. Theoretically I could run during that, but I’m usually quite tired and starving at that point and really need the break to eat and relax. At best I could maybe get 3 miles in? It seems like too much to cram in, but I used to think waking up to run before work was impossible too.

Ron Hill ran to work and back, every mile counts. If you want to be a pansy and make every excuse in the book about why you can't double, that's ok. Just don't make the false statement you can't double, you don't want to double.

If Frank Meza can run 2:20 on that kind of mileage, so can you. Lol.

The whole point of the thread is running 2:19 on 70-80 miles per week. I already do that in singles, so why do I need to double? I don’t want to run 2:19 on 120 miles per week. If I can only run 2:29 on 70 miles per week than so be it. It’s just a fun hobby that I enjoy.

If your 2:22 was on a course like Chicago, Houston, Twin Cities, etc... then you just need to be in that kind of shape again to run 2:19 at CIM

what will you 5 day/70-80 miles per week look like?

A good example would be Travis Morrison, who ran 2:16 at Houston this year and never broke 84 miles in a week in 4+ months before the race.

Right now mainly focusing on 10k training until mid/late September. After that I will make the push for CIM 10-12 weeks out. I usually have tue and Thur off so it will be structured like this.

Mon 8-10 easy miles 6x100m strides

Tue: 15-20 miles long workout

Wed 8-10 easy recovery

Thu: 15-24 long workout/long run

Fri: 8-10 easy recovery

Sat: 8-10 easy,6x100m strides/hill sprints

Sun: 8-10 easy

Total:70-94

The dream is to be in sub 31 10k shape when I start the marathon build up.

I am on a similar path.

Haven't doubled. Used to be elite....have kids now and gained (and lost) 50 pounds in the past couple decades.

I just broke 1:08 in the half marathon, however, so I feel like I might be on the right path. But it hurt and not sure what coming through in 1:09;30 will feel like in a few months.

And I don't have the time to run 100 miles a week at this point...and at my age, I feel like I have to worry about getting hurt.

I have been told the long runs are going to be important.

Easily make it 98-122 MPW by just running to work.
