Did Mike Rossi (viral marathon dad) cheat his way into Boston?

the letsrun thread and others used to be in top 10 results

Just looked him up... entertainment knocking at the LRC door.... Brojos? Please explain why we're not allowed to share opinions on this hollywood meathead.

The evidence against Rossi has been fully gathered for about a week. We know the RD is looking at it, yet this thread remains and the Moore one was taken down. I would like to know why? I emailed the brojos this morning to try to get an answer. Will future cheater threads be taken down? Is there something about that one in particular?

In the thread started by WEJO stating that they need a consistant policy--someone complained about that thread--and it was taken down shortly after--without explanation--completely contrary to the purpose of that thread to have some consistancy.

I'd say until we know the RD is investigating, that thread was serving a purpose - to keep the pressure on the R.D. As of now, as far as I know no one has received any sort of response from the marathon.

If it makes you feel better I am in contact with the RD from Knoblock Moore's race and he told me that he's looking into it. As you said there is overwhelming evidence that she cheated so I'd be shocked if she doesn't get disqualified.

This does happen - some people with disabilities using their condition to be treated differently or for financial gain - I've watched it happen in real time for a Boston entry after the registration period had ended. However bringing this to light would be akin to attacking Mother Teresa, just not going to happen.

If the Knoblocl-Moore thread was removed due to concerns that she might, as a result of the outing, fall off the wagon and revert back to drinking, or because someone took pity based on her physical disability, well then congratulations, you got played. I know countless people with severe disabilities that would be offended to know someone else with a disability used their condition as an excuse to be treated differently, to seek sympathy.

By allowing letsrun to be a forum for outing cheaters--we can keep the talk contained. Now if I wanted to make people aware, there are less options--and more public options. At least here, it is somewhat contained.

Both cheated to get BQ times-these 2 cases should be handled identically.

I am well aware of how and when the issues of "free speech" apply, thank you very much. I also understand that this is their sandbox, and therefore their rules. There always has to be a Constitutional law expert in the crowd. *smh*

Far enough that there is no need to pile on now that we know some has received a response from the RD and they are looking into it. However, she did not mistakenly cut the course. That much is 100% certain.

There is no chance that she mistakenly cut the course, she took a picture at mile 20 on posted on Facebook during the race with the caption "Maybe I have a chance" referring to a BQ and someone even posted you are averaging under 8 min per mile?

I'm not looking to ruin her life, a DQ will satisfy me so someone who earned their Boston spot gets to run.

not saying she does, but lets just for the sake of argument say someone with mental health issues signs up and cuts the course, not quite the same thing as a runner w/o those issues doing the same thing. Allow yourself to harbor some humanity, pity, and faith in people before you stone everyone to death whoever missed a timing mat or quit a race and walked it in but was embarrassed to say so.

there are troubled people out there, they need pity and help, many are incapable of learning any lesson anyway

The irony is that, since the Brojos deleted the thread about Kara Knoblock Moore's marathon cheating transgressions, the talk has just moved to the Mike Rossi thread for discussion. I'll bet that this thread is getting at least 10 times as much traffic as her old one, since it has been linked to on various blogs, websites and media outlets and people are riveted by his story.

I guess we'll have to see whether the brojos want to continue to be hypocrites and start deleting individual posts on this thread.

It is quite possible that her comment "maybe I have a chance" was regarding simply finishing the marathon, as it was her first full marathon. I don't know if she was planning to use this time to qualify for Boston, as her comment regarding the Boston Marathon was made long before she ran A1A. It could be possible she didn't think she was going to be able to finish all 26.2 miles and cut the course because she was embarrassed to admit she failed. She had posted all about the marathon on fb before it started.

I do think she cut the course and should be disqualified, but that does not mean she absolutely cut the course for a nefarious reason.

But using mental health issues is a slippery slope. There was obviously something seriously wrong with Rosie Ruiz's mental state. Should the media have been ordered to leave her alone, regarding the cheating charges? There are even people on this thread arguing that there is something wrong with Mike Rossi mentally and that he's not self-aware of how he comes off to others and that his narcissism makes it impossible for him to ever admit he is wrong. He essentially lives in a prison of his own design. Should we feel pity for him and allow this thread to die?

Don't forget that people who cheat at marathons tend to be sociopaths and are excellent at manipulating other people to get what they want. Kara is definitely not above using pity as a means to get what she wants. Somebody who was truly sorry for what they'd done would apologize and make things right by contacting the race director, rather than trying to garner pity. As others have said, the thread about her would have died quickly on its own had she done this and most would have been willing to forgive and forget, provided she stays on the straight and narrow from here on out.

agreed on almost all you say, I just think that lady looks troubled beyond marathons, I like to know more about someone before I burn them alive
