We've closed this thread to new posts. Please discuss this topic in a new thread given the fact she just won the race outright in 2023. Does that mean that the 2022 cheating allegations definitely have no merit?
so, correct me if anything here looks off, but the times based on her garmin and the official finish time just aren't adding up.
according to the garmin and her IG post, she recharged her watch. garmin reflects this as occurring at 6:52PM, 19 hours and 52 mins after she started. she says she ran about 1.5 miles without the watch. she resumed running at 7:09PM, 17 minutes after removing the watch, allegedly 1.5 miles down the road.
the combined total of these two times, including the 5 minutes of 'idling' after the end of the race when she kept her watch running, is equal to 23:59:27. this does not include her 17 minutes of running without the watch.
her official finish time on the badwater website is 24:09:34.
if we are meant to add the 17 minutes of non-watch running into her garmin combined total, her finish time would be 23:59:27 + 17~ minutes = 24:16:27 and change.
Did you know that when you constantly dump water on yourself, that salt dissolves? Or that people can own more than one item of clothing? You'll need more than that.
You can watch her interviewed a couple months back on Youtube on Believe in the Run's podcast. You watch that and listen and she does not come off as someone who is banking on cheating this summer (which we all agree would be a dispersed strategy throughout her crew).
TBH, I think people relate to her background and her story. I think that Ultra marathons are insane and I have no idea how you litigate this type of thing in the dead of night and with an acceptance of people getting into and out of motorized vehicles.
I've run the half marathon she cut short, and her cut comes at a strange turn without support in a municipal park with branching paths everywhere and no race personnel around.
The whole Two Strike approach from earlier in this thread is flimsy because: 1) She "paid the price" of each strike, and neither is a definitive indictment of character relative to Ultrarunning, endurance sport, or social media scandals' standards. 2) If she had never done a running event besides these controversial races then yeah - but you have to credit the results across years and years. She is a local celebrity for being a fast runner. Not that I know what I am talking about in general.
Aren't you including the post-run idling time in your calculation of 24:16:27 ("the combined total of these two times, including the 5 minutes of 'idling' after the end of the race")?
If you subtract 7:04 (the "idling time" difference between when her cadence stops and the end of the second file) you get 24:09:23.
"Allegedly she also cut the Red Mountain 55K course in 2019. My friend was just behind her and had her in his sights as both he and her were climbing up the Red Loop (~mile 24). As he is approaching the top of the plateau, the next thing he see is her sprinting back down the trail. It was clear to him that she did not run the +/-2 mile plateau section (a nearly loop, that is easy to cut)" From FB MI post.

What is the name of the person and the "friend" that wrote that baseless accusation against Ashley? How come all these slanderous accusers and Derek Murphy's claimed secret witnesses never identify themselves? What do they have to hide? Why don't they stand behind their words like Ashley has? As far as I'm concerned, Derek and these slanderous secret accusers need to get lost.

I have been hard on you, but thank you for reminding me that Latoya Snell is a cheater.
Ashley is the most determined, incredible, inspiring athlete and person I know. She dove so deep in that pain cave, the deepest she said she’s ever been. She went into the race wanting to win. After about 50 miles we realized...
If you’re going to cheat with a doppelgänger, wouldn’t you dye your hair black? Dying it black is as easy as purple and would draw a lot less attention.
if she hadn't served a doping violation and she didn't have multiple questionable "accidental" course-cuttings in the past, then we would never be questioning this result.
I will admit I was super skeptical of the result, especially after seeing those final splits. But some things that have to be taken into consideration that I personally didn't know at first: (1) that final 13ish mile stretch using to be run during the day (I believe, though someone correct me if I'm wrong, that Scott Jurek and others were running that in the day); (2) supershoes weren't around during those times - she could be a big responder.
I don't lend credence to the "but she's a 2:40 marathoner!" argument - that means nothing in an ultra. Yes, the woman is fast and has some verifiable results. That doesn't mean she can't be a cheater as well.
All this being said, I can't imagine how it would feel if she is completely innocent here and is having her name dragged through the mud. But maybe she set herself up for it with her previous indiscretions at races. Who knows. I do hope the truth comes out though and I feel bad for her if she is truly innocent. If she's cheating, then I hope that comes out with verified evidence.
