This thread was originally titled, "Incredible development in the $612,000 Transcon Goodge run, currently ongoing" but the new title is more descriptive. The description of the run is here.
Of course he’s not aware. He’s way too busy and even if he wasn’t, he’s way too self absorbed.
simply don’t make the claim that you ran more than anyone else in the world last week if you have no idea if it’s true or not.
the problem is, he doesn’t care if it’s true. He knows it seems plausible and that’s good enough to run with it. He’s full of crap and he knows it but the masses are stupid enough to believe whatever he says. And if anyone points out otherwise, they are a hater. God forbid anyone point out the truth
It’s fine to promote yourself, but doing it at the expense of the truth is a bridge too far for my taste. And all the while he’s very clearly promoting himself he claims that he’s really promoting the charity. It seems there is a disconnect between reality and what he perceives
Woah, you mean the guys running across America might not be aware of other people running their own competitions?
I mean, if he's actually a good ultrarunner, he'd know this. This would be like Kipchoege being like, "Kiptum? Never heard of the guy!" But PJ knows so little about the sport that he's genuinely out of touch.
You know how to use an API key and yet don't know how to download the Strava data of others? Extremely simple, you are way, way overthinking it.
I just downloaded PJ's Strava data for the last few days to go along with the previous data. I analyzed the cadence, speed, and stride length in detail because I actually have all the details in the files recording every second or so. A level of detail you do not see just looking at the simplified Strava graphs.
And what do I see?
I have contacted Strava support for their reply on this.
LOL!!! You are still way, way overthinking this. You would smack yourself in the head about how obvious and simple it is if I told you.
His cadence was fine on Strava too that day. It's the other days. Something was very different then. I don't want to see your unverified data plots - I want the Garmin Connect data via.
Why don't you just fly out to where PJ is and watch? You simply don't have the ability to analyze data like I do, whether it is Strava or Garmin Connect
Nah, I’m not the one whose been trying to download it. I just see the two of you going back and forth about it and I imagine if it’s so simple to do then you could just explain it

The API and JSON and all that has been explained in great detail by many in this thread. Sneaker's only angle of attack on this is that Will himself is not super technically savvy.
Lmao there is no point in trying. Will starts off thinking it's all fishy and if anyone dares to run differently than his God, then they must be cheating.
"Hmm cadence is screwy and the tracker is going fast" Finds out the tracker isn't 100% accurate. "Ohh well that doesn't prove anything".
Even now, "Oh well that is just too smooth! Proves he's dodgy"
I couldn't imagine getting emails from him as a crew chief and still bothering to respond. He just wants them to fail/cheat and takes glee in it
LOL!!! Cockerell's reply to my post owning him is about the best I could have expected. Even after I proved how wrong he is with the data he is still very evasive and won't admit he is totally wrong.

Could you link to this? I obviously ruled out stupid ideas like screen-scraping as just not worth the messing about and this is not the claimed "simple downloading".

Hi all, here's an update on another thread about the British runner William Goodge doing Transcon at the moment and some worrying irregularities.Namely that he runs at 150-170bpm in the first two days of his multidayers, colla...
I believe that's a link that will gives you a JSON from Strava's API that is used to populate the UI. You need to be logged in to access it. To actually get the direct Garmin data, you have to be named Paul Johnson. Can't double verify that I'm correct right now, but I believe this is the case. No need to actually use Strava's API and get a key and all that afaik.
You can download a gpx of it from Strava. Go to his run activity and click the "dot dot dot" on the bottom of the left navigation, under "Best Efforts". That makes a little menu pop up where it has a link to "Export GPX". Unfortunately that does not have heart rate or cadence data, but it does have elevation and lat/lon; you can use it to analyze pace and grade.
Strava heartrate and cadence data that is shown in the UI can be pulled from the browser. You can open "Developer Tools" in the browser and go to the Network tab; reload the activity page. Filter by "Fetch/XHR" and you will see a request for "/streams" with "stream_types" = .. cadence, heartrate.. Go to the "Response" tab. It's not very detailed but it is the data from the graph that you see.

You said this to Will Cockerell. And then when he did fly out to watch - and saw with his own eyes that Goodge couldn't run 50 miles a day and had to death march it to stay on schedule - you berated him and said he was crazy for doing so.

Actually, no. I repeatedly told Cockerell NOT to fly out to America because he was off his rockers and I had all of Goodge's data and none of it was out of the ordinary.
