Why would the Oles not race? I know they don’t have 400 runners but they should easily be under 10:00. I’ll never understand the strategy from that coach. Doesn’t run Turlington to try to earn the 5K spot, doesn’t run a DMR, the list goes on.

No, they absolutely do not.
Turlington is right on the cusp and either q's with his time or doesn't. Run a mile this weekend to keep the legs fresh, would be a hard mortgage if he ran another 5k. I do agree with your DMR take though.
A big day for the MIAC -
On the fast, but not going to nationals stage, baby Ihrke took the MIAC lead with a strong 800 and Ali followed his historic weekend with a nice 800. If nine guys scratch, Ihrke may be going to Nats. Right now, he's only one second from the MIAC Indoor record.
Bati will be in the 5000m and wisely didn't race a 3K. Gabe and Turlington will hope for a few scratches, but they're likely going to stay at home.
Boone returned to action, but he's going to need a lot of scratches.
Lars stayed at home to have a single-man case race. He won.
Speaking of beer, the Future owes Hartney a case of beer for pacing the mile at Wartburg. The Future is heading to Nationals!
Turlington had an excellent mile, but Power stupidly entered him with no seed time, so he won the slow heat by himself.
It's amazing to think that the 20th place MIAC cross country runner will be going to Nationals and only two of the guys that placed ahead of him will be racing. The Ole alumni will definitely be up in arms after a surprising 8th place finish in the Fall.

Let’s face it, the Ole reign is on the downfall. As Phil’s recruits finally cycle out, the Oles will drop to redundancy. Power hasn’t shown the ability to capitalize on the last successes with recruiting classes to match other schools.
When Macalester has freshmen run 1:53 and Concordia has a 4:10 sophomore that indicates a different level of recruiting only Carleton can match. And Spanish beach trips and illness/odd injuries have sunk their indoor season.
If any of the Carleton 1500 men resurface this Spring, the Johnnies continue their impressive improvement curve, Brauer returns to health, and Power overcomes his ego enough to allow Turkington to run a 1500 before last chance we could see a scenario where up to 14 MIAC men run under 3:52.
The scratches were kind to the Oles with Turkington and Hartney squeaking in. The Future has an incredible chance to be an All-American in his first race on the national stage.
Ihrke missed by two tenths which is incredible as a freshman. He’s the second best freshman in the country.
The biggest matchup to watch will be whether the Bethel sprinters can outscore the Johnnies field eventers. It would be cool to see both score well in the team standings. I’m also curious to see if Bati can ourscore the Oles by himself.

I’m just so impressed with Goss. A guy that was barely all-conference ij cross country is now top 20 in the counter in the mile. He ranks ahead of so many national qualifiers and All-Americans in two events in the MIAC and is close to completely erasing MIAC legend Munir from the Cobber record books. He’s already dropped six seconds from his mile since high school and I can see room for another four this year. By the time he’s done steepling people will be talking about him in the same breath as Wilkinson and Gathje.
A reminder that Hartney ran 4:37 in high and now will run at his third national championship (two XC) and has run 4:11/3:50.
No shade on the Future hype, but let’s recognize Hartney’s impressive improvement despite suspect coaching. I think you could give Power a bike and he’d still lose to Maddie in a 5K.

And someone please give the guy some Ozempic. I worry about his health. At least Brendo pretends to run occasionally.
if powers coaching is really this bad I can only imagine how terrible the training at other schools must be if they can score 22 points at confrence

As most educated MIACers know, the St. Olaf is a school founded on Norwegian values. This translates to their running workouts. The Oles do a modified form of the Double Threshold method, in which they do 2 triple threshold workouts per week.
