It's time for our 2025 Indoor MIAC picks and some bold predictions -
First they obvious - Mo wins anything he runs all year until Nationals.
He will easily break the all time and championship records of for the 3K. I don't think he can take Patzka over 3K, but I'll say he's safely top 3 in both events at Nationals. Augsburg will need to put him in the race that allows him to not do all the work to run sub 14 Indooor. I also predict a sub 29 10K Outdoor, but that's for a later thread.
800m - Smith, Lelinga, and either St. Peter or little Ihrke for 3rd. Probably Ihrke because St. John's still hasn't realized Indoor conference counts.
1000m - Boone, Smith, Lyness if healthy Breuer could be tops here.
Mile - Nichols, Boone, DeWall unless Bati decides he wants to try to run under 4:10.
3000m - Bati, DeWall, McKee because Turlington/Skemp haven't proven they can handle the double. "The Future" could be a surprise here too.
5000m - Bati, Turlington, Nichols
DMR - Carleton decides to go all in and claims the title. Scholastica is the clear favorite for fastest time, but Gustavus, Macalester, and St. Olaf all could have sub 10:00 relays.
Team Standings -
1. Bethel - still loaded with a Hootie Hague and Lelinga to steal some distance points.
2. St. John's - even without Kevin, their field event dominance and strong sprint core will be formidable. They need the mid D crew to step up before Outdoor to challenge Bethel.
3. Gustavus - this young group has enough key individuals and middle distance depth to score a lot Indoor but will need some field eventers to surprise.
4. Carleton - Mid D depth with a strong group of heptathletes will do it for Indoor.
5. Concordia, Olaf, Macalester, and even Scholastica fighting for relevancy. Yes St. Olaf is good at Cross Country, but they have graduated all their depth in hurdles and multis in the last three years. I'm not sure they will score a point outside of a distance other than long jump. The Cobbers brought in some dogs on the sprints/jumps side, have good throws, and good hurdles. Mac has a stud sprinter, some throws, and will need Ihrke's x 2 to really splash with Edwards and McKee splashing a top three effort somewhere. Scholastica has the throws and hopefully have learned from riding the Lars/Boone rodeo down the drain last year.
