I noticed some pretty big egos at one of the last chance meets. One had to make sure it was known he was there. Any experiences with big d3 male ego coaches? Drop your story

Big egos aren’t allowed with coaches anymore. It’s a violation of safesport. It’s all “abuse” now.
John Homon. His accolades may be nearly entirely fueled by his personality and "Homonisms". Any serious insight and deep understanding of the majority of the track and field disciplines that he may have possessed certainly escaped me. But everybody just LOVES him straight to a coaching HOF induction. Fake it till you make it? I dunno. Musta been all fueled largely by a huge ego.
Ones that are bald with beards. Bonus points if they're wearing a vest and/or chewing something
I'm not a coach, but I am bald. Many of us NEED to have facial hair, we look ridiculous without it. I also chew gum nonstop. None of this is a fashion statement.

My story is more of a historical question than a story. And this isn't hating, but a question worth asking.
I competed for a small school in the Midwest. The top school in the area in D3 was North Central, in Illinois.
It was a State School that seemed to recruit basically all of the kids who weren't exactly at the top tier in Illinois, and some other Midwestern States. North Central always won, in the distance department. Their Coach, Al Carius was respected as the best.
But wherever we went, D3 coaches with big egos or small egos would claim that North Central secretly used recruiting practices that weren't quite kosher for D3. Like, they would make sure their athletes didn't have to pay for school, under various scholarships... Not sure what the names of these scholarships were...
So we have a case of inferiority complexes from many coaches, or we have a coach who reeled in already talented athletes and made the most of it.
My only "proof" of the North Central situation was that I had a teammate whose father ran for Carius in maybe the 80's, and he told his son that's how it was. But nevertheless, this was a common complaint amongst D3 coaches in the region... maybe nationally.

Can confirm. I went to North central college and got fully ridden athletic scholership for room and bored. They didn't pay for books tho since none of us could read.

North Central is not a state school, but yes sure they offer scholarships to athletes, most D3 schools that have lots of athletes do this
