All a lot calmer overnight in Cali, let's see what Camille's first day is, maybe around 125. Devon pushing her hard.
I checked out Paul's Strava for that big jolt he had yesterday, and there is a heart rate crash which coincides with a very quick mile. Ie he went from an HR of 160 for a 10:30 mile, to 117 for a 9:51. But I'm putting it down as just a strange bit of data freakery. Largely these guys have been perfect.
It took a bruising 17 hours to find the 61 miles. Will be interesting to see if he's allowed a lie in today.
Now that all things Pete have been put to bed, we can focus solely on comparisons with Goodge last year.
To the naked eye the stats look credible.
Miles:
WG 311 @ 7:26
PJ 361 @ 6:42
No problem right? And a fair reflection of their skill levels perhaps. But then we look at two other crucial factors. The famous HRs:
WG 116
PJ 138.
And now look at elapsed time:
WG 68 hours
PJ 83.
That's a brutal disparity, and is 15 extra hours of recovery, bbq, beers, relaxation, massage and sleep that WG has savoured at the close of play that PJ hasn't. Many would say at the time that "well 50 a day isn't that much." But it was the PACE he was doing them at - and finishing well before dark, and getting lovely 13 hour recoveries.
Anyway, as we know WG gets stronger and stronger over the next 49 days, for his 7 day negative split. So the pain for PJ will only get worse, as he faces the WG onslaught of 80 minute 9 milers, and 55 min 10ks.
Onwards!
