Look people, you may not be comfortable with the fact, but it's a DEI thing to put wheelchair coverage at the same level as the marathon. The inclusion of wheelchair racing at this level just doesn't make sense.
here is 10 minutes of post-wheelchair race coverage and then some commercials! Enjoy! :)
Exactly. We missed basically every single move and every runner getting dropped because here is a story about local volunteers or wheelchair technology.
CRs gotta go down today. We're going to have ~15 men/15 women on sub-2:03/2:20 pace at halfway. Too many people in there to have all of them fall off.
Sounds exciting. Wish I could watch that race .
I think someone said it a couple pages ago but if they weren't covering the wheelchair races they'd be showing us puff piece after puff piece. I don't think it makes sense to focus on the wheelchair racing. So many are acting like every single major doesn't go like this. Execs think, for whatever reason, that this is what makes for a good broadcast for road racing. Maybe the brojos could do some investigative journalism & see how the decisions are made to show what they show in a race like this. LRC is also the .01% that does care about pro running so we should name that. But we're not going to get people to care about the elite side of sport with broadcasts like this. I would rather see Tour de France type coverage.
It's also pretty clear that they're having technical issues, which compounds all of this. Multiple times they've tried to throw up the men's race the shot has been frozen. The women's coverage has been fuzzy. So they've doubled down on the good shots they have, which is the wheelchair racing. I suppose they could've kicked it to the desk and had more commentary, trying to break down splits & who is still in the races.
The wheelchair races today arent even good races. Both winners won by a mile, if it was close racing until the end I'd understand a bit more. Meant we have now missed the beriso move...
Crazy to me how the people in charge of the stream always assume we don’t want to watch the race! Always cutting away to wheelchair or stats or graphics. Sure it might make it more watchable for people who happen to turn it on but most of us want the race! And who turns on wheelchair racing? That’s gotta be such a small percentage of people watching. The amount of people who care about running is small enough why are we forcing those fans to spend half their time watching a completely different sport.
