Xav is actually a really kind guy I know personally. He genuinely simply loves running, and supports the community both beginners and more serious amateurs alike. He didn't intend to send this guy into the rail like that, and this has all really tore him up. Even if he tried to keep him on his shoulder and out of fourth position, sometimes you get caught up in the moment and make a mistake. I've made dick moves in my life before that I've regretted. I've made dick moves in my life that I've taken time to take ownership for. It's a lot to process with so much attention on social media. What I will say, it's super sad to see the amount of vilifying, doxxing, and quite frankly cyber bullying this has all devolved into, including individuals impersonating him on the internet. In the medical tent, he apologized profusely to both Jack and his parents - who didn't accept it and have run with the story now because of the media attention. For a 1 second moment with no true harm intent, that's pretty low class in my opinion. Seeing some of the comments here are pretty hurtful. I hope one day the individuals saying some of these obscene statements let a little more compassion into their hearts, and realize this could happen to them or anyone they know at any time.
No harm intent? He purposely rammed the guy at speed into a metal barrier. It wasn't an accident, it was on purpose.

I can accept this guy made a bad mistake but the lack of ownership and clear lying saying he didn’t see him and bringing up a man hole cover are making it 100x worse. This guy needs to do a LR AMA immediately and own all of it.

If he attempted to ram the guy it was a completely ineffectual ram - you can see from the video that the other runner continues forward, does not veer from his line at all. Right at the line, he throws his right hip and shoulder to the right. In my honest opinion, having watched the dad’s video frame by frame several times, it looked like he was trying to throw himself across the line and possibly also block his fellow competitor, which is dirty as f*ck, but a fundamentally different thing than ramming somebody into a barrier on purpose. After he throws himself in front of the other runner and across the finish line, their legs tangle and they both go down. Cutting off the other runner and trying to block him is dirty as f*ck, but a slow-motion review of the dad’s own video shows that there was no “ramming.” At worst there was an attempted ram that missed, but I really think he was “just” trying to close the door and they got tangled up. The DQ was absolutely deserved, but all of the pile-on that this guy is getting is over the top.

I think the best resolution here is the guy make a genuine, public apology. A no disclaimers, complete apology. Perhaps even beyond what he believes is his culpability. Apologize for what it LOOKS like whether or not that is what he intended. And we all understand the "heat of the moment", he made a snap decision and it didn't go well. Just own it. Entirely. Regardless of intent. You'll be forgiven. People get second chances.

Went back and watched a few more times. It's apparent that he threw his legs and hips to the right in an attempt to obstruct the other runner. Your legs don't flail laterally by that much when you are trying to lunge forward, it was obviously intentional. The only possible outcome of doing something like that is bad, which is why he is getting roasted for being a loser. The fact that he has tried to make excuses further proves that he is a loser.
Call it ramming, tripping, lunging, flailing...whatever you like. When you are next to metal railing and running sub 5 minute per mile pace, the person who can do something like this to their fellow competitor in a Turkey trot is someone with poor judgement at best and dangerous at worst.

I read the first few pages of this thread yesterday, and just saw the video today. Total classless move, and glad to see the offender DQed. He should be banned from races in the future if he lacks that much perspective and ability to play fair.

The obstruction is unsportsmanlike and dangerous. But what gets me is the total lack of conscience at the end. The collision, and resulting fall of the competitor, was pretty bad, and if Xavier didn’t mean to wipe the guy out (as he claimed), he would have to been surprised by the collision. The natural human reaction would be to try to gather oneself, and check on the other guy.
Stopping his watch was a clear “IDGAF” moment. Zero concern for his fellow competitor.
