Maybe that Texans might not be used to 40 degree weather? I don't buy that, though. I figured El Paso Eastwood was going to finish #22, and they finished #22. Not really that surprising (though I did think they'd finish closer to the rest of the teams scoring in the low 400s, but a couple off days will add up those points pretty quick at NXN).

100 point difference, that moves them from #16 to #7 ... and their #1 (Ryan Kline) didn't even show up in the FLW results (unless he was the mysterious #21 finisher), so maybe that was just an assumption on Micro's part?

If it is true, sad that a team qualifies for nationals, and then someone opts out simply for a shot at running at a different national meet - though he's not the first. Maton did it after Summit qualified in 2014 (cost them over 100 points that year as well, would have moved them up from #17 to #9 or so), and Sean McGorty from Chantilly VA did it in 2012 and it cost their team a trip since they tied for second at their regional but lost the 6th man tiebreaker and didn't get an At-Large (OUCH)...

Texas (and the deep Southeast including Florida) will always have a rough go in Oregon, longer travel and challenging weather, if the race was in say Miami or McAllen, the results would not be what the are. I am expecting we will see much better results from southern runners next week in the much warmer California.

A normal race from Geoff Howe would have made FM an easy #2.

Also don’t know if another FM runner’s collapse at the finish and an hour in the med tent implies a sub par performance.

Tell THAT to Loudoun Valley. And Katelyn Tuohy.

The travel wear and tear is nothing to sneeze at, but it's obvious -- two national championships in a row for both LV and KT after crossing the country -- that the travel excuse is a somewhat convenient crutch. Look at Manlius, historically, as well.

Ryan Kline is Central Valley's #1. He did not race at NXN for the reason I said earlier.

That is nonsense.

FM's first 4 finishers in the race totaled 114 points. That's one point less than Littleton's 5-man score. Even if Howles finishes right with Brennan - which would have been his best race of the season, not his "normal race" - FM finishes no better than 4th.

Let's not forget Tamagno in 2014 who went to Footlocker and placed 5th instead of heading to NXN. It cost his team about 200 points give or take about 20-30. You have to remember that a team is not going to race the same way when their team leader isn't there and they know they have no chance of doing well anymore. Their regular 2-5 were all about 20-30 seconds slower than they likely would have been if the chance to podium was still there.

This is what happens when parents are too involved. He would have never made that decision on his own.

The travel is virtually insignificant. The weather makes a massive difference, though. High heat/humidity regions are not adapted to cold/dry regions and vice-versa.

Meanwhile, Colorado and Utah prove year in and year out that nothing beats altitude and cool/cold weather when it comes to XC.

Looking back at the results, why isn't anyone talking about Warwick?

Bishop Hendricken had a hell of a day out of the Northeast to get 4th after losing to CBA at NXN NE.

I'm too lazy to go look at the team results and look at progressions, but what happened? Did someone step up, everyone finally had good races at the same time, etc? Either way, fantastic job of running well under pressure.

Yeah, they had faded quite a bit after their win at Easterns. Solid race by them to nab 4th.

Yes, I am aware of his name, and that's why I looked for his name at Footlocker West and didn't see it. So, either he didn't make the trip after all, or he was the mysterious #21 finisher as I hypothesized, or he went there and just did not finish the race.

8th-grader Lauren Ping had another impressive performance. She proved once again that she's the real deal:

14th place in 2018 (she was 11th in 2017). All-American for the second consecutive year.

17:29.5 in 2018, compared to 17:58.9 in 2017. Almost 30 seconds lower than last year.

She had the fifth fastest split from 2 miles to the finish out of the entire field. Only Tuohy, Chmiel, Ewert, and Covert (the top four finishers) had a faster split to the finish.

She passed Katelynne Hart in that final 1.1 miles (plus nine other girls). Let me repeat: She passed Katelynne Hart in that final 1.1 miles.....
