She ran XC two years ago in middle school, might not be a high level, but it is RUNNING and it is XC. This is not her first season running. She also ran both the mile and 2 mile in the spring at NB outdoors.
Is there a battle with Tuohy looming at the Easterns next year? That would seem most likely place unless Masciarelli decides to go NXN route (which Tuohy will probably go).
If I was a college coach, I'd move heaven and earth to recruit Hart next year. I think she is more impressive than Lane (and now faster at FL), and has plenty more upside. Also seems like a great teammate to join any group of runners that want to improve. Thats my 2 cents.
The best finish is still Withrow back in 03 or whenever that was.

Meh. Still in a league with Lukas IMO at this stage. Of course, he was far more experienced as racer due to triathlons.

The Goethels finish is definitely more exciting to watch for the suspense than the other older ones. The race with Bei is notable because she went from dead last 3+ minutes into the race to winning it.
Today's Hart-Masciarelli finish is definitely the most exciting among these 4 race.

This was definitely the best, beats NXN too. The title spoiled the winner, but watching the race I was thinking no way - must be a mistake. Even last 300m I really didn't think she'd pull away because Hart kept fighting. When you know what happens but are still shocked when it happens, it's a legendary race.
It was also really special to see Masciarelli just refusing to let Hart build a big gap. It got up to about 5 seconds but Masciarelli showed an incredible amount of patience and grit at the same time.
What are you talking about? IDK if she cut or not, but there are two chalk lines, and you run between them. The chalk line does not "show the center of the course." Stupid poster?
Nice to see such a close race today. But IMO Claudia Lane put on a much stronger move over Nevada Mareno to win the 2016 race.
Look at Claudia Lane’s move from about 16:30 on in the video. It’s a shame she was injured.

Don't miss Lane's (or Oakely's) weird running form. Hart and Tuohy (and Mareno) run like elites, much more enjoyable to the eye.
It's worth sending respect for the excellent race calling. After listening to enough garbage lately, this team catapulted the watching experience and gave it the quality it deserved. Thank you!

Just rewatched the race and Hart ran a technically flawless race. In any event every corner is roped or fenced so that it is immune to cutting or getting off course.
Hart is going to be solidly sub-9:50 this spring.

What's the official rule are you allowed to step over cones or do you have to stay with inside them
Obviously they're watching the race really close so if she did gain an advantage I'm sure they would penalize her. So she might have just been pushing the limits of running tight corners
Anyway just curious do you know the official rule. They should just rope off the whole course

This was a more exciting race, but NXN still had the quality over Footlocker. Those cones look so ghetto and amateur. My high school league races had better markers.
Not to mention Nike had ropes around every aspect of the course. No questions about cutting corners in that race.

You're right, I went back and watched them and forgot how close the Goethels finish was. I'd put that as 2nd behind yesterday's, mostly because yesterday they kept going back and forth the final stretch. Bei/Siraki 3rd, then Hasay/Brasovan 4th (this was exciting, partly b/c Hasay was finally able to win again her senior year, but the outcome was clear a bit earlier than the top 3).
