chelimo absolutely deserved to get DQd for that move at the line, he yanked backwards on both farah and edris.

As for the singlet security issue, I completely get it. A lot has changed with regards to how americans are perceived abroad in the last 12 months, and wearing what is essentially a military uniform does make you a target (same reason they tell us not to wear our uniforms on the DC metro heading into work).

What was the actual security concern?

I emailed Colonel Sean Ryan who is the Army Distance Coach and Director of Communications for WCAP and asked him about what Chelimo said about the uniform and how he wore it last year.

Sean wrote back, "As for the singlet, I've told my athletes not to wear U.S. Army gear while overseas for security reasons, including training runs and competition. As Soldiers, they have to remain vigilant and not stand out as best as they can, and another reason WCAP is different from other professional athletes.

As for last year, I wasn't the military coach, but I can tell you I can't allow my guys to become targets, which is why I personally escorted them to and from London stadium."

There would be at least a half dozen threads with replies approaching a thousand total, if not more. The vast majority of posts would be rejoicing that Farah went out a cheating loser.

Go to the 3:36 mark of the Major Races video on youtube and see where they are once they hit the straight. Chelimo has a clear line at that point that gets impeded at the end by Edris who drifts. Chelimo did not deserve the DQ.

Hence running diagonally for the whole home stretch's 100 meters adds a whole effing centimeter to the effort for one line, and approx 8 cm for the diagonal to the most outside lane.

8 cm! That's 1/100 of a second for these guys!

During the home stretch they run with somewhat above 180 steps per minute, that's near 33/100 of a second per step. Let's go a bit generous and say they peak out at 240 steps per minute, that's STILL 25/100 of a second per step.

How much they lose being disturbed (or forced to hold back even a tiny bit) for just one single step probably varies, but surely being surrounded also takes away brain foucs that should go towards forward only.

Going wide on the stretch is something completely different than going wide in a curve. A lot of races would have ended differently if more runners were smart enough to go wide, avoiding the kerfuffle on the inside, totally undisturbed max the whole way.

8 cm extra for going totally free on the diagonal verses what you can lose in all manners of ways in the mix on the inside.

That's not how math works. 100,00²+1,25² = 100,01² for one lane is correct, thus 1 cm for a gradual move from lane 1 to lane 2.

However, if you move 8 lanes (from lane 1 to lane 9), that is not 8 cm, but 100,00²+(8*1,25)² = 100,78². So that's 78 cm you are giving up there. Still not crazy much, but that is a clear visible distance and probably worth 1/10 of a second, not 1/100.

This is SO funny.

People on here constantly complain about Farah saying he is just a Somali and the UK just imported him so he's not British blah blah. Despite him moving here at 8 years old, 20 years before his track career. They also complain about Turkey, Bahrain and Qatar for importing athletes.

On the other hand, you have this Kenyan called Chelimo that the USA literally brought from Kenya to run from them. They use this guise of a WCAP programme which nobody fully understands but clearly they don't even have to wear Army kit they just get paid by the USA whilst running for Nike.

And everyone here supports this Chelimo. I can't wait for him to start winning medals and the American hypocrites here will celebrate them, just like they forgot all about Gatlin's drug usage.

It's actually closer to 0.42m

Why?

1. The track straight off the bend is not 100m, it's a little less then 85 meters on a standard IAAF track (84.39m)

2. The lane width is 1.22 (not 1.25). Plus, the likely path would be from the running line 0.30 from the kerb to the running line of lane #8 - 0.20 out

Even harder to calculate, but I think it's worth keeping in mind that in a tight race some runners will come off the bend already in second or even third lane. And going all the way out to eight will be an extreme under every circumstance.

Heading to fifth lane will probably be more than enough in most cases to avoid any sort of blockage.

Similar reasons I guess why in the athletes village in London in 2012 (and presumably Rio 2016) the US accommodation was the only block with no national flags draped from it. Anybody could tell from the outside where every other team was staying.
