I never accept unverified practice times. But, for more accurate context, Bekele split 21:04 for 8k on the way to 26:17. Rupp split 21:32 on the way to 26:44 (with a 1:57 last 800m).

Walking around LA today it warmed up very quickly. I wouldn't be surprised to see low 80's by the finish. It should be a great race, I am really looking forward to it.

True. 8k is under-contested by the best of the best, and is also not a distance for which the IAAF specially keeps records. So that's why the *alleged* world record of 22:02 is so "slow"/soft. In truth, a 22:10 is *only* about 27:42 pace for a 10k. It's actually a couple seconds slower than the average pace for Tadese's actual world record in the half-marathon.

What does shakeout refer to? As is shaking off the cobwebs? Or a shakedown of the competition? Something else?

A "shakeout" is a very common running term. I thought everyone knew that. A very easy run that does nothing in terms of fatigue that basically just gets the blood flowing.

And that's a quote from Dorothy Parker from a poem of hers. Seriously, try using google one time...

Rupp prayed to us, and we delivered. We made an adjustment to our planned day, and we will give him mid 60's at the 10:00 am start, and slowly bring it up to about 75 by the homestretch. And that my friends is weather, Rupp certified.
