Obviously I have never ran that fast and it is easy to say from my sofa, but I do know a move/surge early in the race usually costs you later on.

A PB is a PB, so well done to Galen, I think he is capable of faster of he ran a little smarter.

I agree, you don't need to make a move like that when the pace is fast and the leaders are with in reach. With that said, I don't think it made that much of a difference. All things considered, Rupp had good performance.

rupp had an ok day. he finished within a group of guy 330 or better guys. seems like he's 3 seconds back of the best at the distance. the 1500 is definitely a crap shoot type of event these days.

Agreed, but when he made that big move they were running fast, and for 30 meters or more he was going faster then the entire field. I think for a guy who hasn't raced a single 1500 this outdoor season, that will put some lactic in your legs. Getting boxed after that didn't help. But if you watch the race it's not like he died down the stretch. He just didn't have the same acceleration that a bunch of 3:30 and better guys had. Run smarter he might have been top 5 or top 7. Like to see them line up at 5k or 10k.

Rupp was fit and fast. And the 1500 was overcrowded. He made that one clever move, after being boxed, but got caught up again when the action happened. It makes the win or time in a 1500 partially luck and roulette to have that many in there. We love it for all the famous names, but it becomes maneuvering and not really a race per se. I would have loved to have seen him run in a field of 12. Still, a PB is great under those circumstances, and likely part of why he hugged the rail so much.

No it certainly is not amazing in this day and age. It's solid, but Mo ran 5+ seconds faster, one of his main rivals Ndiku has run under 3:30, Bekele ran 3:32 low I believe and Haile ran 3:31 indoors before indoors was a joke with the juiced up tracks. I know these guys are the top people, but if he wants to beat Ndiku and Mo, he'll have to be in more like 3:31 high/3:32 low shape. 3:34 is not amazing for him.
