Well, if Chelanga is eligible, maybe they would rather see him on the Marathon Team in place of an athlete sponsored by Asics (e.g., Hall) or Skechers (e.g., Meb).

Let's add RACHEL WARD as an unknown possibility. Agreed, for Caitlin Comfort or Rachel Ward to have a shot at that 2016 marathon team, they probably should get to logging huge miles (start out easy) at altitude.

Who I'm rooting for; Meb, Hall, Ritz.

Ryan Vail is no joke either, I think he could be second. Who will be 4th and just miss? Where would Jason Hartman have placed?

Meb, Eggleston, Arciniaga. I seriously doubt Hall will make it or at least he hasn't done anything in the last 2 years that would suggest that he will. But who knows, maybe he'll turn things around.

If someone becomes a citizen, don't they have to wait a specific period of time before they are able to represent their country?

Here is another female sort of out of left-field:

EMILY HARRISON

She is logging the base with the ultras, but she will need to work on turnover to get under 2:28. Her road 50k this past spring, 69 seconds off the women's record set by Janis Klecker back in the day, still puts her in the 2:30's range.

I think Hall is way too burnt out to make the team. For men I'd say Ritz, Meb, and either Chelanga or Landry. For women I'd guess Shalane, Desi, and Hastings. Kara seems like she's kind of given up on running and I bet Molly will do the 10k not the marathon. It'd be nice to see Kara have a comeback though.

Conner Mantz, 30:00 10k runner in 80 degrees plus as a 17 year old. If not Rio, then keep your eyes open for Japan, 2020!

Mantz is a fantastic runner, but why the hell would he try to make the marathon team in 2016? He'll be in college. Even if he wanted to, he won't be ready to run a marathon at that level by then.

Clara Santucci has a good chance of making the women's team.

Guys team is going to be extremely weak, maybe no one who can break 2:10

Currently at 27 yrs old, what do you think is happening with her training that is going to take her to the next level? Her recent half in March still puts her in the low 2:30's.

Ironically, Sara Hall may have a better shot at making the marathon team then Ryan Hall.

We will have to see how Sara's marathon debut goes, but she has been consistent at the longer roads this year.

I don't see Ritz, Hall, or Meb, making it. All too long in the tooth, IMO. Kara Goucher? She's semi-retired, will she be 37? Flanagan is also older?

I see youth taking over ... at least I hope. Ritz maybe, will he be 34 then?

I don't see any of the people mentioned here as medal contenders.

This is a story we'd like to see:

Sara Hall and Ryan Hall walking into the Oly 2016 Rio Stadium hand-in-hand, Sara running for the women's, and a revived Ryan on the men's, USA Marathon Teams.

Another feel-good story: an out-of-the ashes Josh McDougie on that men's team!

But the Ritzer and Vail are going to push hard for those other two spots. Ritzer and Hall are prob both thinking this is it, last big shot.
