So wejo, what do you have to say about the rupp interview?

Rupp is a lot younger than wejo. He must be baffled when wejo, the supposed insider with a well-known running website, reveals himself to be a sniping gossip hound with no communication skills.

Where is the interview? Can someone link? I don't have access to the front page of LRC. It is blocked.

We are talking about track and field here, which means most of the nation does not care. Nobody I know has any idea who either Alan Webb or Rupp are!

Setting a 2 mile in indoors AR is not the goal of Rupp or any world class runner.

When Rupp represents at the Olympics then talk. Right now you and the other Rupp fanboys should be worried about him doing too much speed too early and overtraining.

I somewhat agree, but the proprietors of this site have always maintained or enabled an antagonistic view of Rupp, so I do think there's some "history" there. I didn't really think the interview was all that bad like everyone else, but it was clear that Rupp either hasn't solidified or does't want to reveal his plans, and that last comment about Lagat taking his 5000 IR was awkward. I mean, let the guy celebrate his own record and champion that. I would've reacted the same way as Rupp did. Rupp appears aloof because people demonize him and Salazar continuously, and it's tolerated, even promoted.

We should be celebrating Rupp. He's an amazing athlete, however pampered. He will set a very high bar when his career is over.

On the other hand, if Wejo was merely trying to foster a competitive posture in the interest of advancing the sport, then it's not such a bad motivation. However, I doubt he was really thinking about what he was saying when he said it, good or bad. Seems like it just came out.

How great would it have been if Rupp stood up, dropped trou, and hit Wejo with the ol', "Gobble, gobble, mofo."

Those how does it feel to have your record broken questions are always lame, but always asked.

Timing might have been a bit B.S. but someone was going to ask sooner than later.

Handles it in a completely different way and that is why Lagat is Lagat and Rupp is a whinny bitch. Yes Wejo made the situation awkward, but had Lagat been in Rupp's place it would have gone down completely different.

Devil's advocate for a sec though - if WeJo ignored it, he would have been bashed on here for missing an opportunity.

The site has it's flaws and I'd love to see them work on some things, but it's far more of a useful service than not.

my goodness who the f*** cares about the interview. eveyr time there is a race, etc, and wejo/rojo interview someone, we always have to listen to you pinheads complain about how it wasn't Larry king himself asking galen rupp what he ate for his f***ing breakfast.

we see galen run no more than a few times a year, and we hear him talk even less, so just be happy that wejo got at least 1:20 out of him.

you know, i'm a rupp fan now. i have been for the last couple of years now 'cause the dude races balls to the wall and is tough as nails.

however, he has made some d*** moves in the pass such as not congratulating solinsky after his 26:59 & his basic indifference to lagat running 13:07.

A "nigga pleaz" would have been pretty sweet too.

This interview seems like a normal conversation among competitive runners after a race. Aggressive, personally invasive, and socially awkward. So it's appropriate for a website obsessed with competitive runners.

Maybe Rupp knows that wejo knows ... You know what I be talking about?

That's just meaning that you have put to his actions. Remember, thoughts and feelings are not reality. Don't make things out to be something that they may not be. Before you strike back at me, give it some thought.

In comparing the two interviews from LetsRun and Flotrack, a couple of things stand out.

I. Ryan Fenton had already established rapport with Lagat. Like runners, trained journalists focus on the warm-up, even thought it only takes maybe ten seconds..

II. He showed some sensory acuity, trying to read out lout whether the situation was appropriate, when he says "should we tell him..."

III. Flotrack used the phrase "you guys swapped" to tell Lagat that Galen had gotten his two-mile record. So the context remained on Lagat's record as well, while delivering the news. Also the tonality behind the statement allowed Lagat to process the statement as essentially "hey, you guys both ran awesome races." As a result rapport with the interviewing subject was not broken, which allowed Lagat to appear more gracious.

In the running community, communication skills are maybe not as valued as 100+ mile weeks. But this stuff can be worked on.

Wejo really needs to be schooled on journalism etiquette by Rupp the same way Mottram schooled the flotrack guy.

He chose to act like it was an insulting question. It was poorly put out there by Wejo I will agree, but Rupp's response was that of a crybaby.

You do realize that such an accusatory and condescending post makes it seem as though you "act like a baby" as well?
