Between steroid type stuff for strength and speed, massive usage of painkillers in order to perform, uppers (speed) for game day, downs and booze for after the game, the NFL players make track dopers look like tea totalers

No, it doesn't make sense and I've never accused Dix of doping, nor do I even think he's doping. I actually think he is a helluva sprinter given his size and speed improvements.

I only have a very short list of American sprinters I would accuse of doping and Tyson Gay is not on that list. I think he is an upstanding guy and an amazing talent. Just wish he weren't hurt so much so he could push Bolt and the rest of the Jamaicans.

Even Gatlin, given his history - wouldn't be stupid enough to get back on the juice, but I think it's a shame to have him competing at all. He's just way too tainted and when he runs, you can't help but disqualify him in your mind. I think he should be banned for life, given the degree to which he and others hurt the sport.

The only American Sprinter that strikes me solidly as being on the juice is Carmelita Jeter. Not only has her voice deepened. Her face and body structure seem to have taken a decidedly masculine turn. Then you also have to consider her past and current coaches, Larry Wade and John Smith. You can do the research on them if you wish but suffice to say they are no strangers to peds.

Dix has a deal with Nike & Oakley, I think he makes good money, at least according to this:

I'd rather that he suck up his ass whuppin and shake hands like a real man, instead of running off to cry like a little beyotch. In any book, that was bad sportsmanship. Robles held back Xiang with his hands and got disqualified. The only thing holding back Dix is his weight... no DQ there.

When sprinters immediately walk off like that it usually means they suspect something is not right. (This is coming from a former coach.) In the 1980s, U.S. sprinters rarely enthusiastically acknowledged the victories by the Eastern European and USSR athletes. Also, look at videos of victories, by the Chinese athletes in the 1990s; women usually hug each other as a congratulation, but they Chinese athletes barely got hand shake from the other competitors. This does not mean Blake is dirty or that Dix thinks Blake is dirty...I am just telling you what I know.

Why not discuss some of the USA World Champs Team who are proven dopers but still allowed to run for their country

Sprinters are just poor losers. When they think they're the best and they get beaten, often their egos can't take it and they get upset. I really wouldn't read anything into it when a sprinter storms off the track after being beaten. I certainly wouldn't take the big jump too assume that it's related to doping suspicions.

On the subject of "clean" Americans. I was sickened when I saw Gay walking arm in arm with the doped up Jamaican Mullings, back slapping and all smiles at one of the early season DL meets (NY?). If this is a clean athlete who cares about his sport, why happily have someone like Mullings (who had already served a doping ban and was about to get busted again) in your training group and be so chummy with him after seeing him beat you to a win in your home meet? Gay is either clean but happy for dopers to be in the sport or is as dirty as the rest. Either way - sad.

Dix is a class act. He is always honest and humble in his interviews. Heck, here's a guy who could have gone pro after a year or two of college, but stayed in college and finished his degree. Why? To make his mother proud, and to set a good example.

I don't doubt that Dix is a class act, I just don't see how a momentary frustration at running well and still being beaten = he is convinced that Blake is doping. You can be a class act and still occasionally be a poor loser.

While I don't see Dix storming off as evidence of him believing that Blake is doped, I do see Gay's response to Mullings as a suggestion that he is ambivalent towards doping (at the very least).

I watched that race over and over. Dix started out very strong and prior to the bend, he was on Blake like white on rice. At one point, a commentator even thought he was going to take the lead, of course, his strategy was to floor it from the start and give it his all, slowing at the end due to his limits and exhaustion.

Blake came with a totally different strategy. His start was slow and relaxed and he let Dix hang with him up to the bend but he didn't mash the pedal until coming out the turn. To see someone accelerate away like that when you thought you were running the best race of your life made him realize "I've got nothing for this guy and this isn't even Bolt." He realized he just got his ass kicked by Jamaica's #2 man and he was TOYED WITH on top of it.

Can't believe you can't see that. You claim to be a coach but you can't see bad sportsmanship? You'd rather paint the picture that puts Jamaica in the same light as the world class dopers of a bygone era? That makes you no better than Dix - you just waked off the field in a huff.

The answer is simple Jamaican’s don’t get tested out of season nearly as much as Americans. The Jamaican’s don’t have a national testing system like ours in the United States. There population is only 2.5 million (Equal to a medium sized US city) where the USA has a population of well over 300,000,000. To my sadness we should beat all comers regardless of drugs. Walter Dix has been very fast since college. In the NCAA they test. So Walter was and can be tested on three different levels at that time (NCAA, USADA, and WSADA). Walter Dix body has not changed much in college and since. Only his hair style.

You're not helping. Medal count between blacks and white sprinters is not relevant. Considering the Olympics were VERY white until the 50's and 60's, the black athlete has more than made up for lost time in the Olympics. During the first half of the century, most African (and predominantly black) nations were under colonial rule, fighting to free themselves from colonial bondage, or their infrastructure was so awful from years of colonial bondage (mostly French speaking) that fielding athletic teams wasn't a priority. Running water, electricity, and stable government were more important.

This is the part where you call him a racist, then he boohoos about pulling the race card. He's simply an idiot, why fight it?

My question to everyone... what if Walter Dix had edged out Blake in the race and it was Blake who walked off the field that way. Would there be a thread asking Blake not to dope? No, you guys would be whooping it up in celebration and calling Blake a sore loser. End of Story.

Dix walked off the track in a huge sulk. He was supposed to win, in his mind. The fact that Blake had the lane outside him gave Blake an advantage in being able to chase Dix down, and Dix was extremely unhappy about this.

Before the race, Usain Bolt, who trains with Blake, told him how to run the race, to hold back on the curve and attack the straight and that's what happened.

I am pretty sure that the US has a more competent Anti-doping agency than Jamaica. However, Mullings for example was caught, by the jamaican antidoping agency during the Jamaican champs despite that he lives and trains in the US and compete mostly in Europe. He only seems to come back in Jamaica to compete for his trials. This is surprising that he was never caught by the USADA or by any doping agency in Europe.

If we look at the record book even since fully electronic timing (FAT) was implemented 1960 European sprinters haven't broken any World Record in the 100m unfortunately.

I have another theory, this is common knowledge that drug testing became much more stringent in 1980s and this is mainly because of that, that dopers began being caught (even tough quite a few managed to escape it). Anti drug policies were much more lenient before (when was blood doping outlawed ?) Pretty much every steroids that were available in 1980s were already available before and anabolic steroids were already used in the 1950s in weightlifting (testosterone).

"Benoid" Johnson's Stanozolol is a drug that was on the market for at least 25 yrs and I cannot believe that we had to wait 1988 to have the first publicized abuse of that PED.

I have read on some "weird" boards, some ridiculous drivel that "roids" were invented in the 1980. Out of competition were nowhere to be found before the 1980s . That gives the false impression that drugs era only began in 1980s, the level of testing was simply a joke.

Interestingly, this is then than East German an Soviet male sprinters (where came from the majority of European sprinters) became largely irrelevant despite the fact that they had pretty much every drugs at their disposal.I don’t know the answers but something to ponder as we look back.
