Isnt it Terry...not Terri
I am coming to Maryland from the 18th to the 28th and looking for some people to run with. My folks still live in Damascus and I will be staying with them for a while and I am looking for some training partners if anybody is interested. Let me know so I can start planning. I like to run about 10-15 miles a day about 6:30 pace. I can change if anybody is willing either direction in speed.
Yes War2e is enjoying his beer and some more beer and some wine and some JD. What do expect from a chicken farmer.

Someone still remembers us. How about that. Having been a part of that group, I must say we had a great time. Good, hard training on the canal, and a very dedicated coach - Greg Shank. All of us "old-timers" are doing well, just a little older, and probably not wiser.
Baker - coaching high school (and of course hunting), Ferrari - coaching high school and still running, Fox - coaching @ Auburn, Stoner - raising his kids (maybe doing some secret training?), Steven - selling real estate, Spinnler - coordinating the 50-miler, Greg Shank - enjoying grand kids and waiting yearning for the good old days, Croyle - mentioned in above post...
Spence was an occassional "guest" with the group...
forgot to mention Scuff - still doing a little running...
Big Daddy ever run against a guy by the name of Charlie Koestler..??...Baltimore guy..think he ran a 2;24 marathon in that time period
sorry, don't recognize the name. A few Balt. guys I knew well were Doug Mock, Mark Gilmore, Ken Fowler, Dave Berardi.

Didn't Kartalia hook up with ya'll for awhile?
kartilia did, very briefly though - only for hard workout days.
Accurate information on what the core of the "Old Hagerstown Running Group" is doing today. Terry Baker, 48, ('82 Cherry Blossom Champ, 7th at '82 Bostom Marathon, former Charleston Distance Run -15 mile- record holder at 1:14:15.....28:32, 2:15:39)is coaching high school as is Brian Ferrari, 43, (former NCAA D-II X-C & 10,000 champ....28:48 and 2:19 as post-collegiate)and Tom Stevens, 47,(2:17:30 in '91 and 17th at the '92 Marathon Trials).
Jeff Scuffins, 41, (28:40 at '87 Penn Relays, 2:14:01 AT '87 Marine Corps Marathon)coached high school for a while and is now working in financial services. Chris Fox, 45, (3:59.1 and 13:21.60 in '83 as well as 27:53.0 --in '95 at age 36-- and 2:13:43 in '89) now coaching at his old school (class of '82) Auburn.
"The Coach"...Greg Shank, 54, still helping younger athletes, but hasn't worked with elite level athletes since '00 when he assisted Mark Coogan and Kristy Johnston to 3rd and 2nd place finishes at the Olympic Marathon Trials.
All that is great...but none of them compare to Buzz Sawyer..the man is a legend...Buzz deserves a book
one step....
thanks for the very accurate information. this could only come from one person...someone keep in going in h'town. is there a chance?
Not to mention Maria Pazarentzos ( 88 Olympic Trials 10k )
Great Racer ( Tougher than most of the guys )
and John Doub who lives just across the border in Pa., but works in Hagerstown ( 28:25, 47:30, 1:03, 2:19 ) and George Keim former Runners World U.S. Masters Runner of the year
Two questions:
Is there a canal with towpath that's runnable in that area? And where can I get info on it?
Did you guys race Bruce Robinson? I think he was a bit further south - Silver Spring?
Wayne
Yes, you can run on the canal...its on Rt.11 off of 81 South. Take 81South from I-70, take Rt.11 then follow that all the way down until you see the C&O canal. If you get to the bridge you have gone too far!
Where can I get info on the old school coach? Is he willing to coach again? How is the team at Hagerstown college?
Buzz Sawyer is the man in Hagerstown....Id like to run the Canal myself..any upcoming races there..??
Fox and Scuffins were great guys. I was at UNC-CH in the mid/late 80s and Fox was the X-C coach (his first coaching gig I think).
Jim Farmer, Mike McGowan and George Nicolas all happened to be there (and with Fox coaching his first year, were 5th at NCAA's X-C). Scuffins, Pink and a few others showed up and trained there and were the early years of a good training vibe in Chapel Hill. I wish I had listened to more of Fox's running tips.
There was a meet this past saturday at the Hagerstown indoor track facility. There isn't any races that I know of anytime soon. But you can meet up with the guys on Sunday at the Williamsport High School, they leave @ 8, first mile is done in 4:25......bring your spikes!
Anybody slower there on Sats..??...lol..
