more chance of making the olympics?
more chance of making the olympics?
Sop what you are saying is McCormick is being penalised for 1 bad season, very forward thinking. Didn't he run 3.52 and 13.23 the previous season? At least he has proven that he can hold his season together right through to a championship, he has run 3.34 through to 28.20 for 10k on the road... yet gets nothing? Thompson on the other hand runs 3/4 races per year! but has a coach who is heavily involved with UKA, any coincidence? I think not.
and Mccormick's new uka coach doesnt have an influence either?
It is amazing how this system works, basically it is whoever they want on funding because the criteria makes no sense. Last year Pidgeon didnt sign a contract so was left off funding now this year with Storey as her coach she is back on the funding list??? Their top criteria is who your coach is!
So why would they want to fund people who they don't really think are good enough? If the amount of £ is finite, which it is, why wouldn't they keep it for an even smaller group of runners if that would increase the chances of world level success?

Mr Speight - have you thought about moving up to 5k?
NO!
To be fair I don't think i'm talented enough to run a decent 5k. I am doing far more endurance stuff these days, and it is helping my 15's, but I still rely heavily on my speed. I never made a final of English Schools, so I don't have the basic talent some of my 'collegues' have. Its just taken years and years to get to the level i'm at now. To run Olympic Qual in an event like the 5k you need to have a level of natural ability I just don't posess.
Would be a nice thought though but 13.20 odd! maybe on a bike!
Cheers for the interest

PS James you can run quicker than 1.49, i've seen you at opening time at Misty's!
Abi Oyepitan could do amazing things, mark my words
who is his coach now?
