Is this a game of cat and mouse or something? Like let's see what everybody else is doing before we declare so we can adjust accordingly? Like if so and so is in the 400, then we'll do the 800. But if so and so is in the 800, we'll do the 400?
Or is it based more on current fitness/health?
In any case, with regard to Athing, what sense does it make to announce late? There's no way she's doing anything but the 800.
You’re missing 1 crucial element: SML is in the 400 not the 400mh. Kersee will never have his athletes race each other, so the only logical explanation is he’s putting Mu in the 400mh.
Oh wait, I forgot to mention Simpson's gold from 2011. Damn, I'm out here forgetting basic US distance running stats, looking like Rojo...
Not to be "pedantic" but I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Olympic Games you muppet.
Because Rojo is in fact correct that there have been 52 of those events contested by women at the Olympics since 1972 (72, 76 had 2 each, 84 had 3, 88-04 had 4 and since then 5). Athing Mu is ther ONLY American woman to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games in that "category" of event since 72.
Maybe being "pedantic" he could have said the US is 1 and 51.... right?
Either way, this is HUGE news if she doesn't declare - surely points to her having little interest in continuing a career as a professional track and field athlete, right?

The other one MIA is Addy Wiley. I thought I saw her entered earlier but no longer there. BTW entries end PT not ET. Also Jonah Koech was entered earlier in 1500m with 800m time - now he doesn't show in either.

The reality is, nobody gives a $hit whether or not the runner with the 31st best time in the US this year competes. l.
So the guy / gal saying that no one cares is in fact posting about it in the middle of the day on a Tuesday? Do you not realize that your post PROVES lots of people care?
Hell I'm getting a slew of texts from an 800 Olympian about it tonight and that's why I came to the forum to see what people were saying. Jonathan Gault has admitted he's refreshed the entries at least 10 times today.
The reality is she's a unicorn. Starting in 1972, the US has 1 gold medal in a mid-d or distance event on the track for the women - 800, 1500, steeple, 5000 or 10,000. We are 1 for 51 with that one belonging to Athing Mu.
The fact that she might not even enter the USA championships when she is 23 is wild. Hundreds of thousands of people on here would seriously consider dying for her talent.
I've been refreshing the entry site a bunch of times today too. I got excited for a bit just now when I saw the number of entries increased from 41 to 42, but the additional entry was someone else.
On the bright side, I see that both Juliette Whittaker and Roisin Willis are listed!

Why would her career be over? This is the knee jerk reaction of the Me-anderthal crowd. Everything that passes through your head has to be some big take or snap judgment. Her career could be only half over. Please people learn to think.
The ONLY event that Mu has a USATF qualifier for is the 800m. Either she runs the 800 or she watches the meet on NBC. It's not like Emily Mackay who has the World Standard in three events - 800, 1500, 5000. She could enter all three and keep people guessing for the next 48 hours which event she will declare for. That would be playing head games. Mu is not in this position and nobody is fooled.

Wiley is listed on page 2 now.

Again, Addy Wiley is not listed because her name is Addison Wiley, which, is listed. FFS!

Fixed it for you. "Half over" - what's the metric for a "half over" career btw? Weasel.

What I object to are the over the top declarations asserted with great gravity. What if Athing just found out she is pregnant and decided to focus on that for now? This seems unlikely but I think the point is that few of us know yet if she is declaring for the meet or not, and if she is not, why would that be, and why it wouldn’t necessarily be career ending.
