Kersee THINKS that people are on the edge of their seat waiting for her to register, constantly hitting "Refresh" on the USATF page. The reality is, nobody gives a $hit whether or not the runner with the 31st best time in the US this year competes. I'm sure the other runners hope she doesn't because none of them want to have their World Championship dreams crushed the way Nia Akins did in 2021 by someone who seems to have no idea how to run in a pack despite competing for over 10 years. She might make the semifinals; she will not make the final.

Yeah, I'm sure Kersee really cares what 8 losers on letsrun think
In fairness, you'd have to ask what the motive would be in her entering at the very last moment, if not to keep people guessing? Practically, it doesn't make any sense otherwise.
Is this a game of cat and mouse or something? Like let's see what everybody else is doing before we declare so we can adjust accordingly? Like if so and so is in the 400, then we'll do the 800. But if so and so is in the 800, we'll do the 400?
Or is it based more on current fitness/health?
In any case, with regard to Athing, what sense does it make to announce late? There's no way she's doing anything but the 800.

Kersee is a strange guy who often does strange things. That's all there is to it. It's just Kersee being Kersee.
Reality mental process by real athletes....They plan for America's best to be there because that's what they have to be ready for if they expect top 3 or even a PB effort of themselves. IF someone doesn't show up, so what, one less to worry about or actually even more motivation once the first round gets underway. Just because someone enters doesn't mean they are going to compete or be ready anyway. Can't control the uncontrolables.
It's too bad if athletes really get hung up on whether someone is in or out. That's their business. In Mu's case, everyone already knows it's not worth the mental energy to worry about. I get the fanboy angst but real athletes that step up to the starting line don't and can't give two corny turd$ whether she's there or not. They have a job to do with or without her. 2:00 isn't making too many people worry anyway.
While searching for info on Athing's status, I came across this heartwarming photo of Dave Wottle talking with her after her race at the Ed Murphey Classic.

Hopefully she's working through what's been challenging her
She's such a talent that I hope she runs better again - could be the one to take down the doped 1:53 - and also for her personally as well to be better
The advantage of waiting until the last minute is they get a good laugh at all the retarded monkeys guessing, making sh!t up and throwing poop at each other while they try to figure out what is going to happen. You own this site but act like you are new here. She did this last year for the trials as well and entered at the last minute.

So the guy / gal saying that no one cares is in fact posting about it in the middle of the day on a Tuesday? Do you not realize that your post PROVES lots of people care?
Hell I'm getting a slew of texts from an 800 Olympian about it tonight and that's why I came to the forum to see what people were saying. Jonathan Gault has admitted he's refreshed the entries at least 10 times today.
The reality is she's a unicorn. Starting in 1972, the US has 1 gold medal in a mid-d or distance event on the track for the women - 800, 1500, steeple, 5000 or 10,000. We are 1 for 51 with that one belonging to Athing Mu.
The fact that she might not even enter the USA championships when she is 23 is wild. Hundreds of thousands of people on here would seriously consider dying for her talent.

I get your point about Mu's incredible talent, but Coburn won a WC gold medal in 2017.
