The Youngs went out too hard

This is a great example of why Brosnan is one the best distance coaches ever. He has explained many times coaching is watching and being with your athletes day in and day out and making changes on the fly. This is what he has says over and over. Him NOT being with Loe and Lex and actually coaching them has hurt them a little this fall. Especially yesterday. They didn't have their coach all season that has guided them to an almost perfect season last fall.

The rumor is Leo and Lex will be back with Sean Brosnan thisWinter/ spring running unattached for the rest of the year or until June. Even Sean Brosnan being a coach at UCLA he is allowed to coach unattached athletes and it seems like a smart thing to do for Leo and Lex. I'm sure he has influence on their current workouts, but not being there everyday and watching them has lead to poor choices, like the very early hard race effort they had yesterday too early into the race. It just shows what a brilliant coach Sean Brosnan is when working first hand with athletes. If the rumor is true they will not be running for Newbury Park this winter/ spring and running unattached I'm personally excited to see records go down once again.

Will top nonseniors and top freshmen be training with Sean too? (in order to get ready for future seasons)

I think the sahlman young fued would explain the erratic pacing.

Also why Leo would fall apart and lose so many places in just 400m after being passed by Aaron and finish in 11th, 14 secs back.

He just pushed himself to far, very much like Cheptegai did at world XC in Uganda. Cheptegai got to hyped and threw down some insane surges and paid the price.

Aaron applied the Pure Hate technique with surgical precision, running EXACTLY 800m on Pure Hate: 300m at the start and 500m at the finish. Chilled the rest of the time. A work of middle-distance art.

It’s a fact. They ate at separate times during NXN, saw them visibly uncomfortable near each other and seemed to actively avoid each other. They didn’t really talk to each other the whole trip. You won’t see Aaron in any more L&L videos for a reason. After brosnan left they were butting heads hard, which motivated Aaron extra hard during the race to beat them. You can see them looking around all race at each other, and racing in a way that made it seem like they weren’t teamates.

If you mean that the Youngs don’t get along with Sahlman, you might be right

Look at this HC photo. Sahlman was missing, and the Youngs, Cantu and Seymour were there. So the Youngs aren’t as good of friends with Sahlman as they are with Cantu and Seymour outside of running

what I am trying to say is, in summary, It seems like the Youngs are closer friends with Cantu and Seymour than they are with Sahlman

I know that Doshi and Shetty aren’t in this photo but those guys aren’t even in the same grade as the Youngs

I had a similar situation when I was in high school. Our top runner and myself did not seem to get along he ran 9:13 for the 3200m I was a year younger and ran 9:19. The real reason we did not get along was more so created by our coach who played favorites. It got pretty bad my senior year when I actually realized us getting along had nothing really to do with, he or I but our coach. He left and went on to Cal Poly and had a mediocre running career after a stellar freshman year. My coach started promising a local community college that they would get me when I graduated, and he did not even run the idea by me. I was not in a household that had supportive parents that would have allowed me to stay home and run at a local CC. The options I was given from my parents was either take a scholarship away or join the military. I went back east to university and had a solid running career in college and my high school coach had resentment toward me for doing that, but he never even took the time to understand my home situation which was not good. The long story is my former teammate and I talked years later and both of us agreed we never disliked each other it was more of our coach who had a sick way of creating an issue that was never there!

Pulling the old German F routine.

There's definitely something going around. My son got sick 2.5 weeks before his state meet. During CIF prelims and Finals he struggled, he wasn't himself. He had trouble breathing and felt very weak. Barely made the sate meet, He did ok at his state meet but wasn't really 100 percent since he was still recovering.

The way Lex finished the race reminded me of how my son was having trouble walking after CIF finals. It wouldn't surprise me if both were sick. Sucks that it happened at a national meet but this race does not take anything away from what they have accomplished. They will bounce back fairly quick and will go on to continue running some PRs.
