The USA has 65,000 occupying the Middle East ? Should ban all the American’s from Boston because the Americans invaded the Middle East and left troops there .
As a Russian citizen (of Ukrainian origin, just in case someone looks through my previous posts and finds that a contradiction), the only remotely reasonable argument for this 'cancel all Russians' thing that I have heard basically drills down to 'You didn't overthrow Putin so you share the blame' (it can be worded prettier to make more sense). That still pisses me off. I've been to a few protests, rode the party bus to police station twice, donated to Navalny (which is now a crime). Some of the people I personally know got suspended sentences for the protests, luckily nobody got a real one (yet). Very few people are just writing words on the Internet, and even if they do, current laws make it not safe at all. Yeah it was not enough to overthrow Putin. So what. I haven't run sub-4 mile and definitely never will, should I take PEDs and go to other extremes or just quit then?
What pisses me off even more is that one of the pillars supporting anti-Putin sentiment is that his idea 'Russia is surrounded by enemies' is stupid. But with all this 'russia bad lets cancel russia' thing it might seem like it's true.

I think the intent of these bans is not so much to punish Russians for not ousting Putin, but to make their lives miserable enough that they will be more vocal in their opposition to the war and Putin himself. So, it's more of encouraging people to stop the war and maybe oust Putin than to punish them for not already doing it as you put it.
I don't feel great about banning regular Russian citizens from events, but I understand the thought process behind it. Sure, banning a handful of people from a race may be insignificant to most Russians, but it may be very significant to those individuals who's plans to run Boston are ruined.
There of course is the possibility that it can backfire and those individuals feel more resentment to Western nations imposing the bans than to Putin, as your words suggest.
The US Government and their allies in the Governments of EU countries financed and supported a violent coup in Ukraine in 2014 when an elected Ukrainian government was overthrown.
At that time, nobody talked about banning athletes from the US or the EU from international competitions.
This is a statement against the Russian war crimes in Ukraine, probably more than the invasion. Most Russian citizens don't believe the reports of war crimes are true. They need to know the world is unified against their country's invasion, this is a small but public way of letting them know.
They should have all already been banned because of systematic state run doping. It's ridiculous that they've just been allowed to continue to compete after getting caught but never actually reforming anything.
