That minimum wage would mean that someone working the standard ~2000 hours a year would earn 60k, which is well above the current median income for a single earner. I am not an economist, but I don't see how this is possibly a viable solution. I would imagine it would lead to lots of small businesses going under, increased unemployment/underemployment, a bigger push towards automation, and also rampant inflation. The truth is a lot of labor simply isn't worth $30/hr, and artificially setting its value there creates a host of problems.
I feel like a UBI would be a much more realistic solution.
Honestly if we could get to a universal basic income that met basic requirements with universal health care, We’d eliminate the need for a min wage. Also, it could get more people in dying small towns.
Why not? If we're going to set up a minimum wage, why not set it up so that people have a chance to become wealthy? Kid living at home while in high school and summers in college and then even a little bit after that. They can save a ton of that, then go buy a house and have a lot more disposable income when they get a career-type job which would help the economy.
If everyone has more money, and it costs more to produce goods, then wouldn’t prices rise and purchasing power decrease leaving everyone back where they started 🧐
Even if other people’s paypackets remain the same then minimum wage workers would probably just be replaced with automation
Hmmm. Maybe because they live at mom and pops house and nobody in their right mind is going to pay $20 for a hamburger at Wendys.
Anyway, if you understand how the economy works, if you start paying simpole jobs $30 an hour than the price of everything goes up. Then, guess what? Then top end jobs start paying exponentially more... then $30 an hour is worth what minimum wage is now.
Forever we dance.
So...Ah, Ok, make it $30 per hour and we'll jack everything else up and guys like you will be happy thinking you are getting wealthy.
A prerequisite question is whether minimum wage should be enough for someone to live on in the first place. Either way $30/hr is too much. My salary is 60k and it is far more than I need. My brother's salary at a research job was 50k and he thought he was being paid too much. In my experience most people don't know how to budget and have a hard time not spending money. I grew up without any discretionary income. I learned to save and found ways to entertain myself that didn't cost anything. I'm now glad I grew up in an apartment where I shared a bedroom with my two siblings and where everyone shared the same bathroom. It taught me invaluable lessons.
In that case I should get paid about $2500/hour. If we’re all okay with insane inflation then let’s do it!
Amen. Socialism has not succeeded anywhere on planet earth at anytime in history. When will these numbskulls ever figure it out. Get ready, the political wind is going to blow hard in the other direction soon. The Great Reset is in for a kick in the crotch.

Yeah, every 40-60 years socialism has to save the nightmare that is American capitalism then we let everyone fleece the general population again
