Can you explain this and say what this would look like? What races/times/training would she be doing instead, and how would you know if she were doing it?
Also, you dont have to explain the science of your approach, but can you give examples of world class women who used your model of developing instead of getting faster?
Thanks for the input!
In my mind she should train a little less hard and then also stop trying to be so fast for such extended portions of the year. She races late into XC, then all indoor, outdoor and late into the summer. At some point if you are concerned with how those races go then you work on things that will get you the most ready right now for those races. That is certainly working amazing but from my point of view it's at the expense of long term development. Look my plan would basically have it so we barely know her name, but then I have a feeling she would be a stud later.
As for world class women I would say almost all of the current American distance starts. Emma Coburn, Courtney Frerichs, Shelby Houlihan. They were certainly all fast in HS but they weren't trying to break records or go to national level meets at every single chance they got. I think it's worked nicely for them.
Look you can disagree with me but this is something I'm 100% confident in. I was having the same arguments with people on here about Mary Cain and everyone told me I was out of my mind. I want to be wrong, but I also know I won't be. She will be the next phenom failure and in my mind it will be due to decisions her, her coach and her family made now that caused it.
