I’m not big on Watson. He seems to overtrain his guys. Watch the WoW videos on flotrack from this year and from when he was at UNC/UVA. If you’re a distance guy, OK State, New Mexico and Ole Miss are all better options.
Does New Mexico even have a program for men anymore? I thought that they were cutting track?
As far as distance running programs in Texas go...there are a lot more options than just UT or TAMU. It all depends on the experience that you want. If you want to go to the University of Texas for the tradition, the prestige, and the awesome academics...then go for it. But as far as going for distance running, if I were a 16-18 year old, knowing what I know now years later...I would find the program that fit me best and that would help me reach my running goals.
Here are some of the top 5k, 10k, and steeple times from Texas universities last Outdoor Season; just the top time from a few schools who had guys under 14:30, 30:00, and 9:00...I am sure I am missing someone, but just a good idea that there are a number of schools that have some quality performances from last track season.
