Okay, so i'm trying to get into running. I am 15, but I have a history of knee pain and issues that flare up occasionally. Running, I found, on the treadmill makes this worse and makes my stride really weird.
So, I can run 3 miles outside at like an 8:30 but I haven't been running consistently and this is really hard on the treadmill, so instead of forcing myself to do it i'm going to start slow, start at a mile and build up slow because the treadmill is hard and odd on my body. But I HAVE to run somehow, and with the winter coming up, I need to learn how to treadmill run properly.
I find it is much harder for me to run on a treadmill, everything feels like it takes more effort to run much slower than I normally would outside. Regardless, I need to make the treadmill work. What can I do for my stride, training, etc. to make it as effective as possible in terms of conditioning and impact? Any tips?
Btw I am thinking of increasing .5 of a mile every 2 weeks or so in conjunction with hip strengthening exercises to avoid injury. Does this sound like a good plan? Lemme know. All and any advice is appreciated.
