ESPN is based on the East Coast...in fact they are, 2.5 hours from both Boston and NYC.
The AL East features 3 huge market teams (NY, Boston and Toronto ).
The TV reach of the Yankees and Red Sox is nationwide.
The "market" for the Yankees and Red Sox alone includes almost all of the Northeast from New Jersey on up. That's what, 40 million people?

It's not an AL East bias - it's a Yankees-Red Sox bias. I remembering listening to the season opener in 2017 on espn and they talked about every team in the AL except for the Orioles.
