I’ve been dealing with leg pain off and on for a couple of years. I am a college basketball player and it originally started off as shin splints on both legs. Then I developed pain on one leg that was extremely tender to touch and ended up getting weak and painful and I couldn’t even practice. Walking up and down stairs hurt and just standing. I’ve had X-rays and a mri and there’s no sign of stress fractures. I was told it was possibly tendonitis so I rested it for a month and it eventually went away. Fast forward about 4 months and I then developed pain in a similar location on my opposite leg. Dr thought it was a muscle strain, said to stay off of it. I did and it got better but then came back once I picked up work again. Athletic trainer thought it was peroneal tendonitis and I did rehab exercises for it along with some graston and also wore a walking boot for two weeks. It went away but is now returning gradually. Now I have pain in the original leg. So basically, now both legs hurt to touch on the side about 3 or 4 inches up from the ankle. Just jogging for our warmups makes it feel weird and tight and like I don’t have a normal gait. I stretch my calves all the time yet they still feel tight.
What could this be? I don’t think it’s shin splints or stress fractures and could it even be some type of tendonitis in both legs? Trainer is now thinking it could be chronic Exertional compartment syndrome. Is that even a possibility based on my symptoms?
