It seems his thought have changed since that 2 year old interview.
From a Aug 23 interview linked in OP
When I told my agent that I wanted to do a marathon, I couldn’t think of a better place to do it than New York. This is something new and a great challenge. With the training that I’ve been doing, maybe this is the right time to go all-out. With all seriousness, I want to show up and run a really good marathon in New York
Wish he would do Chicago instead. I could see a 2:10ish on that course.
He'll finish in 1 hour and 74 minutes flat.
This is a nice payday for him. He'd be lethal in a fast finish, but there's no way he can grind it out with some of the big names listed for this marathon. I also wish he had done a faster course and gone after Meb's record. I don't blame him for checking the box and getting a nice payday, though.
DADDY CAN STILL KICK! ...in a marathon?
2:16.
2:07:55 easily
He'll get a BQ for sure!
I don't expect him to be competitive. Something like 2:15. Then again, I didn't expect him to win Peachtree this year, either.
SIT AND KICK!
Can someone ring a bell for him when there is 400m to go, please?

He couldn't outkick Dathan who pulled away with about 1:20 left in a 10k race.
That was only a 10K, he'll be fine over 42.195K

You misunderstood my post. I think he'll be fine as well and I truly see him breaking 2:13 with fair weather, but he's not kicking at the end of a marathon like he did on the track.
He had passed the 9k mark and knew it. He knew there was just over a minute of running left when Dathan gapped him. Bottom line, he couldn't stay with him for the last 500 meters and Dathan does not have Lagats finishing leg speed over the shorter distances, yet he clearly beat him.

If El G didn't retire he would of been caught doping by now. He wouldn't have beat Bekele in 2008 but definately silver. Would be interesting to see what would have happened. He had a lot more to give but the risk of getting caught was to much for him.
Would OF?
TO much?
2nd grade called and wants you back

I love this race. Two old US legends: one speedy, one strong. Battle of will!
I have tremendous respect for him, and he is as a smooth a runner as I've ever seen, but (a) he's 43, (b) this is not a good distance for his training or his form.
He's not breaking 2:20.

With his recent half marathon time, that's just plain silly to post something like that.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
