He had a great career, but it is time for him to hang up the spikes. 3:49 yesterday? D3 guys are running faster than that right now. Hate to watch someone in such serious decline holding on for too long.

As long as he's getting a paycheck to do what he loves, why would he?

Yes, it is painful to watch. But, he has earned his right to compete for as long as he wants. Plus, if he's getting paid, then to stop makes no sense at all.

Yep. And runners get paid for being marketable, which is largely a matter of personality. Leo could run 4:20 and be more marketable than 90% of our sub 3:40 guys.
He should go straight to the thon.

Wtf is he marketing??????? Dude get your head out of your Arse! He ain’t marketing nothing but to say hoka brand makes you terribly slower than you once were. 3:49 is hobby jogging for track and field elites.
Did he really say that?? wrote:

Didn't 3:50 just win an Olympic gold medal?

Dude’s had an amazing career and can go out however he wants. You are just being a hater and I hope he keeps running for years and backs it off to 4:05 1500s just for you.
Manzano is one of my favorite track athletes. I don't follow track as closely as I once did, but I have neat memories of watching him racing incredibly smart. That, plus the fact that he just got it done to place high even when not being very heralded was awesome. I hope he gets paid just on the basis of that. Blue collar.

Really???
Yeah a 3:50 closed in a 50 second 400m not a 62!
He's gone 4:00.nn 2x in April already this year, I don't see what the big deal is. Can't he be in a little bit of a funk or something? Maybe allergies or an injury? As if any of us have any idea. Maybe he's trying to race through something
I say he stick around. Watching his pre-race rituals never get old.
(On a more serious note, superstition is a sign of fear and ignorance.)
He should wear a thong!
Now we see why nobody wanted to give him a solid contract after his medal. Major sponsors knew this would happen

Meh, he won the US outdoor title, ran 3:30, and made several US champs podiums after his Nike days.
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?
Caitlin Clark thinks she can beat Eagles draft pick Cooper Dejean in 1 on 1
Cade Flatt with yet another DNF, this time in the SEC Championships
Do "running influencers" harm the competitive nature of the sport?
