I assume you plan to visit so I can't add much that you wouldn't figure out on your own.
Facilities are top-notch, the indoor track is the best I've ever been to (been to many major track facilities in the country) both for running and spectating.
They tend to redshirt most guys their freshman year and have them race unattached.
Academics are decent, used to be worse I think but have gotten better.
Incredibly affordable school, tough to find a better value for you education. Massive team, so you'll have to work hard and be good to stand out, but it is a fun environment.
Baltes is one of the best distance coaches across all divisions
Denard is the best throws coaches in the nation under 30
Dunson wears tights to practice
Roster of 60+, they redshirt freshies, and make you run 100 mile weeks out of the gates. Only those that can survive injury free make it out the other end. Makes it very easy to get lost in the masses and hate the sport. You’ll either be the 10-20% that become great runners or the 80-90% that burn out and spend all the time injured and Baltes won’t give a s**t about you because you’re not one of the top guys.
Assuming you arent from GV source your sources.
Friend’s brother ran there. Was a state qualifier in high school.
Three years or so after graduation though he’s a waiter. I guess that could happen with any school, but really, if you can, go to a better academically inclined school.
It's a notch above Western and a notch below MSU.
I agree with you on the high miles but I don’t think it’s right out of the gate. I would say 60-70 for freshman and following year 70-80. Unless that’s changed but it is who survives the miles kind of deal I agree.
I don’t agree with the baltes doesn’t care bit. As long as you bust your butt attend practice and care about your academics and the team he cares even if you aren’t the fastest. But if you have one foot out the door then he checks out and you have to earn back. Which is fair. We’re adults not kids.
